Hi, I'm Shelly Lane, the owner and author of QuakerParrots.com. Thanks for visiting my "ME" page!

I became involved with birds in 1981 when I brought home my first budgie, although I had always wanted a bird for as long as I could remember. I had long been attracted to the beauty of birds and was intrigued when I learned that some birds could even imitate human speech.

It wasn't until 1995 that Quaker Parrots entered my life quite by accident. My life has never been the same since! In December of the same year, I founded the Quaker Parakeets Mailing List which grew from a handful of people to hundreds of list members within a few short years. (The Quaker Parakeet Society now manages the mailing list.)

It was in 1997 that this Quaker Parrots site was "hatched." Both this site and the mailing list have since been featured in books and in articles in Bird Talk magazine, which I am very proud of — along with dozens of web sites across the Internet.
