Making a Difference

Thank you for making the decision to get started with this very worthwhile project!

The program is called "Folding @ Home," and it is run by Stanford University. By joining the project, you will be helping with the research of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Parkinson's disease and more.

What is Folding @ Home?

Folding@Home is a distributed computing project. Participants around the world install a small program on their computer that allows their spare computer resources to be used for research. Folding@Home studies protein folding.

How do I join?

You can participate in the project by downloading and running Stanford's FREE software. The first time you run the software, it will ask you for a user name and team number. If you like, you can enter our team number, 37865, to be a part of the QuakerParrots.com team. This is a really fun way to participate. (I will have a team stats page up soon!)

For your name, you can enter a user name if you'd like to keep track of your contributions to the project. Be sure to read the section on choosing a user name on Stanford's download page. If you would like to participate anonymously, you can use "qpanon" as a user name (without the quotes, of course).

For windows users, I suggest downloading the "graphical" client rather than the other choices. There are download versions for Mac and Linux users as well.
