I'm so happy to have him home, and I think he's happy to be home to. If I wasn't so happy, I'd probably throttle Rick. He knew how to handle Jojo, and was telling me and showing me pictures of his other too he had. I felt really comfortable letting Jojo go to him. Well, it was a mistake in more ways than one. I'm just glad Jojo wasn't there long enough for any permanent damage.

He was feeding him all the wrong stuff. I had told him Jojo's likes and dislikes, and what his diet is. Well, I found out this morning he'd been feeding him roasted salted peanuts, salted pretzels, coffee every morning, animal crackers, etc and giving him the pellets I gave him as treats instead of food!!!

He said Jojo hadn't played with a single toy the whole time he was there, and would scream and cry unless he was being held. But, he's home now, and settling in nicely. I just can't believe he messed with his diet so bad. I don't know what he was thinking. Poor Jojo bird. No wonder he was stressing out. He doesn't change diets very easily at all, and he not only changed homes but his diet to in the same week. sad.gif Thank goodness he's ok, and he seems happy to be home.

I'm glad to hear Jojo is safely home and all shall be well with him. Maybe he will look at it as a short holiday before returning to you. wink.gif

I'll bet Jojo's so relieved! If only he could tell you what he's thinking! So glad you got him back and he can go back to being happy again!

Ahhhhhhh glad he's back, Stacy. Yep, changing homes and diet at the same time can be very stressful on a new bird.

His other too didn't die. Rick got transferred to Japan and had rehomed her to his friend, then when he got back stateside he got another too. He got activated and rehomed her as well. He hasn't had another bird for almost 20 yrs, so I kind of wonder if he figured that's how he cared for his other birds and they seemed fine so it was no big deal. However, he didn't have his other birds long enough to see the long term damage done by a diet like that. Plus, I'm thinking avian medicine wasn't really around much back then....I don't know. All I know is I'm glad Jojo's back home with me, and that he's going to get proper care from now on. I also learned my lesson and if I ever rehome a bird again I'll be much more careful and and cautious about it. I thought Rick would be a good home for him, but apparently I was wrong.

I think you should throttle Rick. You told him all the right info... but honestly- coffee?!? What part of 'caffeine is bad for birds' did he miss? Glad you have him back home. I had a similar situation with my two ferrets that I rehomed to a good friend that 'disappeared' like she told me after they were gone her dad has a habit of doing to her pets mad.gif I'm never rehoming ever again until it kills me (in which case, I shall haunt the new owners laugh.gif ) Rescue/ fostering of course is a different issue as those guys were never 'mine' to begin with. I do know my limits... have to battle that crazy animal lady urge fairly frequently, though. mellow.gif

Well, he's acting perfectly normal, other than whining for his coffee in the morning (which he isn't getting of course). He's eating fine, poops are normal, and he's playing with his toys. I'm bringing Taz in for his annual check up next week, and I'll ask Dr Duke about Jojo when I'm there. I don't think there's any long term damage though.
