Okay heres the dilema (sp?). My parents saw me ordering my cage online, and noticed how much I was going to be spending on my new Qp, and they aren't too thrilled. They aren't very happy about it and are trying to talk me out of getting it. I have been looking foward to getting this quaker for months, and now that I'm almost done waiting for it, they're trying to get me to chicken out, because it's too costly. I think their afraid I will get bored, and not want to take care of my quaker, but I was only like that with my betas I still took care of them but really all you could do was look at the things. I just want a pet you can play with, and who can keep you company and occassionally make you laugh. smile.gif I'm persistant on getting a quaker because I'm always playing with my Bf's birds, (sun conure, cha-cha & Double yellow headed Amazon, Oliver) and I love em to pieces.(my bf thinks I only come over to play with his birds I think. laugh.gif ) I hope I can convince them that I'll be a good parront.
Wish me luck. unsure.gif

I wish you the best, whatever that is. It sounds like you have given a lot of thought to the joys and responsibilities of being a parront.

I don't know how old you are or what your situation is but your parents might also be concerned that as your life progresses, you might find the responsibilities are more than you can handle. For instance, if you go off to college and can't take him with you. They certainly have the right to choose not to take on the task of looking after a parrot. Life does change and often unexpectedly.

That said, if you've thought everything out thoroughly, I would just sit down and have a long talk with them and go through all the details and how you plan to deal with each of them them.

He brings up a really good point about if you go to college.

If you live near a college, see if you can go there and live at home. That's what I did. It's worked out great because this school is the best in state for my major.

I would hate for you to become attached to your bird and visa versa, then you would have to rehome beacuse you are going to college and won't be able to take him with you.

Talk with your folks and see what their concerns are. That's the best way to make sure everyone is happy.

Thanks a lot. I would hate to get too attached too, if I had to give him up, I'll consider that.
