I had priced play-stands for Skittles and went into sticker shock. ohmy.gif So, I got on this message board and found one that I really liked, printed out the directions and showed it to my hubby. He and I worked on it one night and me and my friend added the finishing touches over the weekend.

I'm wanting to make sure it meets all of yalls approval. So please let me know if there's anything here you see that needs to be changed.

In one photo it's my husband leaning over given Skittles a kiss and the second photo is my son standing by her play-stand. So far, Skittles is enjoying it very much.

Very nice. Now if you'd be so kind as to share the parts list and construction instructions with everyone maybe other people would enjoy making one as well.

Thanks for sharing!

It looks grand to me, although the pictures are too small to really see it well.
Looks like Skittles is enjoying it already!

Our Zoey has a store bought one, although it is a small one that wasn't outrageously priced. She doesn't like it so far, and it is placed next to her cage with a perch attached to connect it to the cage. This is after slowly bringing it closer and closer as the days have gone by so she can adjust to it and get used to it being in her realm. She has ventured onto it a couple of times, but really isn't crazy about it...at least not yet. She seems to be a bird that takes a loooong time to get used to and accept anything, including me. sad.gif

Materials include:
Vet tape
little wooden ladder (bought from Pet shop, for birds)
100% cotton rope
baby toys from Dollar store, Wal-Mart, and Dollar tree
big yellow ball I bought at a bird fair (most expensive toy $10.00)
and the hanging wreath at the bottom was made by my best friend who is going to make her bird one too. She bought a small wreath and wrapped it with colorful sisal rope.
I also took the little woofle (sp) balls and made some holes a little bigger and ran the cotton rope through. This is mainly for decoration because Skittles has never played with them.

Overall, cost was much cheaper than purchasing one. We used 40 feet of 1/4 inch PVC. With the fittings it cost us around $20.00. Vet tape was around $20.00 with some left over. I know she don't have $25.00 worth of toys on it. I would venture to say it was built for around $70.00.

Skittles is happy and so is the family.

Nicely done!!! Man, I am so envious of you guys that can do that stuff. I just don't have the patience for it. Heck, I sat down yesterday to make some bird toys and got three toys made in about 1.5 hours...and two were foot toys!! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Is Skittles able to move up and down on the play stand pretty good?

btw, your son is a little cutie!!

That is too cool! I know JoJo is too little for it now, but if we start soon, it could be ready by the time he is ready. Where did you get the directions for it?
What are you using as a base?

Thanks

what a great job on a play stand. That looks absolutely wonderful for any kind of Fid. Kudos to you. I am sure Skittles is enjoying it quite a bit.

You can find the vet wrap at the pet store. Usually just ask. It is a gauzy wrap that sticks to itself a bit, not sticky, that people can use to wrap their animals' limbs if they are hurt. Not expensive, usually about $2 for 10 yds or something like that. Lots of diff colors usually.

Carrie Anne - Thanks for the compliment on Steven. I think he's a cutie too but I'm very partial. LOL!

Skittles does great on it and today when her daddy took her off of it and put her back in her cage, she threw a fit. She kept on and on and on, so he went took her out of her cage and put her back up there. (SUCKER!!!) She climbs the ladder and all. I was telling my friend last night that Skittles doesn't play with her toys in her cage like her bird does. On her play stand she's already climbed everything she could get on and loves the $3.00 hanging toy that has the little beads in it and makes noise.

Angie - I got the site from the wonderful "Reds Parront" that she posted a while back. Here's the link she posted and I printed it out from here. http://www.tailfeath...tion/pvcgym.php
My husband used ALL 40 feet of pipe. Of course you can do like we did and make it however tall you want it.

Neecy - I got the vet tape from our local feed & seed store. It was $2.25 a roll there and $2.99 at Pet-Smart. I bought 5 rolls and went back for 7 more. I covered the play stand all the way down the 4 legs at the bottom. The only thing not covered is the actual base. Because I wanted it colorful I had to get more rolls. Once I was done, I still have alot left. My next one will be done in LSU colors (purple & gold) tongue.gif

That vet tape stuff, my doctor ( not vet but the doctors I see personally) use stuff just like that when they steal my blood instead of band aids or that god awefull Cotton ball stuck on with medical tape that HURTS REALLY REALLY REALLY bad when u try to remove it 5 mins later !

I wish they'd use it every time they steal my blood - which is at least once a month
they've used it on my kids too but it was decroated for kids, my son got spider man, my daughter got care bears, i got purple smile.gif
