Hi guys,
I am hoping some one in here has some advise for me. I just found a baby dove (I think it is). It was on the sidewalk outside the office at our apt building. I didnt see a nest anywhere above it but there was a dove walking around by it. It looks like a dove. It is so tiny still has some pin feathers. I brought it inside and laid it on a towel and put a light beside it. I also got a drop of water on my finger and tried to put some in its little beak. I have no idea how long it has been there or if it is hurt. I cant afford a vet visit right now as I still have to take Jesse(qp) and Pablo(senagel we just brought home yesterday) for a vet check. My birds are first but I am just wondering if someone has any ideas on what I might be able to do for this lil guy? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Pam

Well just wanted to add a note to this since I dont know how to delete it. The baby already died within 10 minutes of me finding it. Man, I hate this. I feel so helpless in these situations.

Don't feel bad Pam...Sometimes there are definite reasons why the babies are tossed from the nest. Survival of the fittest come greatly into play when it comes to Nature and undomesticated type animals.

You did what you knew to do and there isn't much more anyone could have asked of you.

But it still makes you feel so helpless. Make sure that you have washed your hands and changed your clothes etc before handling either of your birds. Wash the towel in HOT water and bleach and Dry it in the HOT dryer...

Awww, poor baby. Kudos for trying, though. Nature works in mysterious ways.

Thanks for the kind words. I cried and felt bad for a bit and I am better now.
I did wash my hands and arms and changed clothes. Thanks.

Oh gosh, poor guy. Could of been he was just too traumatized by the fall, or whatever happened before you found him.

I've heard if something happens to one, a lot of times a bird will dump a whole clutch. Something about genetics and it's not conducive to her to spend the summer caring for a clutch of 2 when she could start over and have a clutch of 4 instead.

Probably WAAAY more than you cared to know, but my point is lots of babies are abandoned every year. You shouldn't feel bad at all wink.gif

Picking up wild babies is tough. Never know what nature is going to hand you, its just great that you tried!

Hi Pam,

I am sorry you had to experience this. At the very least you know the baby died being cared for by a kind soul. That makes all of the difference in the world.

Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement. I just hate the feeling of helplessness more than anything. The poor lil thing was "so" tiny.
Thanks again for everything.
