glad you asked that question. Even tho I have had my quaker for 7 yrs he never gets bread because he did the same thing long time ago. I thought he was gagging or something.

I'm originally from Denmark, and our bread there was rye bread... The white bread here in Australia I wouldn't feed to my birds... It sticks in the mouthes of my grand kids, and it takes them forever to get used to it... and then they leave the crust!

My birds do get a bit of rye bread, when they share it with me.. tongue.gif

No worry that is the way to get the bread down in the crop..I had my Bobbie do that with Peanut butter when I first got her and I to freaked out until I read what they where doing...just be careful no to give too much as bread can get doughy in the crop. Also, white bread not good for us or our birdies..

Skittles does that with bread and rice. Then she'll go to the side of the table and wipe her beak off. Yesterday we were eating dinner and she was eating some egg I had boiled for her. She was walking around with egg on her beak and I said "come here Skittles and let me wipe your beak", she walked right over to me and looked at me. I wiped her beak off and she turned and went back for her food. We all just started laughing. Don't know if she really understood it or if it was coincidental but it sure was funny. laugh.gif

My quaker parrot is 10.5 years old, and he loves bread. Parrots don't have any saliva, and thus no enzymes to break down the bread in their beaks before it travels to their stomach. The head motion is just them trying to get the bread down. I wouldn't worry about it. If you ever feed bread to sand hill cranes or ducks, they do it too.

none of my birds really like bread with the exception of my quaker who loves cinnamon raisin toast.
majj mine love oatmeal too I always wonder if its because it reminds them of the mash they were probably fed as babies?
