My quaker does something I have not yet read about and I am wondering if anybody elses bird does this. She will drop her head to the ground and touch her beak on the floor, then pull it back up again repetitively. She does this like a machine over and over again till I do something to distract her. She did it worst at her old home where she was ignored a lot of the time. Now we give her a lot of attention, but every once in a while, she will still do this odd "dance". It's really strange, sort of like bowing more then bobbing.
She also demands total attention from the flock from the time she gets up till nite nite and flock calls horribly if we even move from the room for a second. It seems as if she doesn't know how to entertain herself. She has been with us for over 2 years and is "free range" with lots of toys and roaming area till nite nite and spoiled rotten by her daddy. rolleyes.gif
Does anyone know what we could do to quite her down? Is she getting too much attention? We can't possibly give her more but I would really like to leave the room once in a while. biggrin.gif Sorry for the double whammy here, but I really would love to know these things.

Is she trying to play "I canbe shorter/taller than you". My Chuffy loves to play this game, and has a patience for it that outlasts mine. Try bowing your head and raising it up quickly and see if she copies you, lead for awhile and then follow her ups and downs Birds seem to love this game.

Stewie does the same thing from time to time. You can even hear him drag the tip of his beak on the floor. He does he pretty fast and hard several times in a row then stops. I just do it back and talk to him. We have fun. I wouldnt worry, as far as the noise goes. I dont know about that.

No, it's not the "taller and shorter" game. She does love to play that game. She puts her head all the way to the ground and taps the front of her beak on the ground, sometimes holding it there for a quick second. If I try to imitate it, she just looks at me like she thinks I'm crazy and stops. I know she is trying to tell me something, I just don't know what it is. More then likely, it is linked somehow to food, like everything is. It might be like what Stewie's doing? Sounds close.

Really and truly, I think Kiwi does it when she wants me to hold her and then she hugs me...and THEN she bites me. laugh.gif Just kidding. I think it's when she in a lovey mood!

Thanks for all your replys. I guess she is not mental after all! lol I think she is praying too, or preying....on me to feed, cuddle, play or what ever. Aren't they the silliest birds? Today she did the beak down and ran down the counter dragging it. I got her a new toy, this rubbery ball with holes to poke treats or toys into, and she beats the toy up unmercifully while screaming, crackling and snorting and making such a racket you would think it was hurting her, not the other way around! She is sure a crazy bird.
Thanks again. It is nice to know we have wonderful kind and helpful people here on the forum. [now if only I could get that flock calling down to a decent level] dry.gif ... laugh.gif
