Thank you so much for your advice. I just love listening to people who have have experience with Quakers. Your post reflected what I have read in the books I have bought and memorised. I have decked his cage out with lots of stimulating (mentally and physically) toys and games so that he can learn to play on his own. I am heading out to the shops to get some more on the weekend so I can rotate them and keep him excited!

I cant wait to find out which toys he loves, and the colours he likes! and the food lol!!!

I just adore talking about them and I have worn my partner out hehe. laugh.gif

What else can you tell me ?? wub.gifrolleyes.gif

Just in case...buy bandages. laugh.gif Kidding. tongue.gif

Welcome to the forum. It's refreshing to hear that someone has done their homework before bringing a bird of any type into their homes. Kudos to you! smile.gif

Well something does come to mind that you might want to think about. How well do you know the breeder? Ask them to start introducing toys to the baby as soon as it's old enough to have its eyes open...And ask if you can bring a few of the toys to him so that the baby is used to seeing them BEFORE you bring him home...Other wise all those new and wonderful toys could be for not...Just because he will be terrified of them not knowing what they are...He could think they're monsters going to eat him.

Try not to overwhelm him with lots and lots of toys and new things as its going to be stressful enough on him to just be coming home with you and be in a different cage and what not. Lots of people have the mind set to fill the birds cage as full as they can with toys and what not...But I've found that my just starting out with one or two toys that are small is far less intimidating to them Remember that they need to be able to spread both wings out to their fullest without hitting anything so they can get proper wing exercise and that means both inside and outside of the cage. I would also avoid mirrors in his cage as that will give him a buddy and he'll bond with that buddy in the mirror before he'll bond to you...and you want him bonding to you.

I too commend you on doing your homework and research long before you bring this little ball of fluff and feathers home. And I'll bet that if you take the time to delve into the archives here that you'll come across just about any topic one can think of pertaining to care, handling and anything else imaginable pertaining to a Quaker.

Good Luck and have fun with this birdie baby to come.

Uncle Zippy
Haha, they are such characters! Its just like me, clumsy and daft. I cant wait to see if Yoshi is going to be like that. Thank You biggrin.gif

Andie's Mom
That is such a good idea. No it didn’t actually cross my mind to introduce toys like that. When I think on it now though it has so much logic and common sense. It will make the transition to his new home so much calmer if his has familiar toys. I should give her a little blanket thing or his bed lol. I just want him to be comfy and happy.

I know that the breeder, Sylvia, has a good reputation but I don’t know her personally. She will not give the baby to me before it is ready which is good to hear. And he will come with the seed and pellets he has been weaned to, and a nutrition sheet and a care booklet, free wing clipping and crop worming! She sounds like an honest ‘bird oriented’ breeder.

Hey Natalie. Uncle Zippy may be laughing but he's not kidding. Buy a few bandaids...you know...just for fun. laugh.gif

You probably won't need them until Yoshi is around 5 months old and his inner self tells him to try to bite you! Try to remember that they are just love bites. tongue.gif wub.gif
