New Qp Mom, Question About Talking.

Hi all... Sunny is a female qp, a year old. I just got her yesterday, and I know talking takes time. But, is there a difference between male and female qp's talking? I noticed most of the post about qp's talking are referred to as males? Is this because you don't know if they are male or female, or are the boys better talkers? I did notice today when I ask Sunny for as kiss she does make a smacking-smoochie noise, kinda like the one I make when I give hubby a kiss. I know, give it time

I think both can talk very well if they choose to. With any parrot however there's never any guarantee that they will talk. If you just got your QP, it will take a few weeks for her/him to feel comfortable and safe enough to want to talk, just be patient and keep talking to the new Fid and things may happen

Talking takes time, first and formost.
Nick's a great talker and picks up words and phrases amazingly fast sometimes. He also has a wide vararity of words and phrases that nobody can understand
Some of them quite lengthy conversations of gibberish.
All that being said, the vast majority of the time he does his talking are when people are close but not in sight. My office is around the corner from Nick's cage, we share a wall. When I'm spending bird free time trying to get things done he will run thru his vocabulary trying to get me to come into the living room. This is when I get to hear new things he's picked up, at which point I come in the living room and he dummies up. Grr.
The only time he will consistantly talk or respond is when someone is close but not in sight. Other than that the only consistant talking is: To me, "whatcha doing" when I get home from work, to my wife: "hey, big guy" when she gets home from work, and "see morning" when his cage is being covered for the night. That's not to say he doesn't talk if we are all in the same room together, but he is, I don't know, real subdued about it. If the wife and I are talking, he'll chatter quietly along with us, if we are laughing he laughs with us, etc.

My very first Quaker was a girl. She talked amazingly well. At the time I also had a Cockatiel and added a Congo African Grey. The more they talked the more she talked. My little guy now doesn't say too much. But he has not been with me long. He is 2 years old but I know little of his past. All I have gotten from him is hello and he kisses me with a kissing sound. He does run on in the typical QP gibberish throwing in alot of screaming. We are working on that. Patience. At least that is what is what i have to keep saying over and over in my head. Then I take 2 tylenols.

It varies from bird to bird, there really are no guarantee's! Jade is about 18 months ish now, and she's only even said one word, HELLO, once. She will makes noises and whispers like she wants or is trying to talk, but nothing comes out - Unless she screams that is! LOL
