Ok, my sweet little ZeZe has been having lenghthy screaming fits lately. Like we can't even hear ourselves talking. What can I do? I usually cover him up and say "Time Out" and that works about 3/4 of the time. Lately, it does not even matter.
Is there any solution?

I think more information is required. How much sleep is ZeZe getting a night? Do you think he is making the noise out of boredom or just overly tired?

Covering the bird as a form of punishment really isnt going to work as you already are experiencing.

Birds will be loud for many reasons one of which is to get attention. If you ignore it and can tolerate it even on the short term of a few days the bird will get quieter. They also make alot of noise when they are bored. Find foraging toys or toys that stimulate their curiosity to keep them busy is another consideration.

Make sure your bird is getting plenty of sleep also does help.

These are just a few suggestions.
Its better to get to the bottom of why he is screaming and problem solve from there than assuming the bird is just being naughty.

good luck and hugs

I know this is tough on your ears. Maybe try moving him to a room that is unfamiliar when he gets quiet bring him out. A little time out. I know it is very hard to ignore. good luck.

Hi - I think I can share these tips??? Anyway here goes - go to www.birdtricks.com/parrotcare.pdf

scroll down until you get to the section on screaming. This guys DVD's are amazing so you may want to invest in the basic segments. Trust me this will work for sreaming - focus on rewarding quiet and walk out of the room when screaming - it takes patients but will work for you!

Hugs, Mara

I recently moved his cage from the basement (finished living room) to upstairs. And my mom moved into my basement. He's in the dining room area that's part of the kitchen/dining/living room. I wonder if it's too much activity for him?? He's got some toys that are about a month and half old. I should probably switch them out. The screaming is just driving me crazy. He comes out of his cage probably every other day at least, sometimes more.

I'm going thru the same thing with Bubba - I feel for you. I'm going to take the advice that has been given and take out some of his toys and just try ignoring him. I have ear plugs - I'm going to use them! Good luck - if you find an answer, let me know because I'm also at my wits end wacko.gif
