I realize this is for QP talk, but as we all know anything goes. biggrin.gif

So…..

I have 3 budgies….2 female and 1 male.

Recently I have noticed that the male budgie is very, very aggressive with the girls. I have caught him on top of one of the girls basically pinned her down and biting her hard. And the girl budgie was almost screaming! mad.gif This is defiantly not normal behavior for them. They are molting and not helping each other out by grooming. Instead they are very ruff with each other. I find that the boy budgie is in both of the girls’ faces and nipping at them. mad.gif

I am about to take the male bird out and put him in his own cage. But with that being said, I use to have the male one in the cage with only the one girl. And they got along GREAT! With having the other girl budgie in the cage, is the boy budgie feeling more superior? Should I just separate the one girl or the boy? Or keep it as is?

I can’t handle watching my male budgie be so mean to the other two….I am getting very upset with him. mad.gif

Any suggestions???? unsure.gif

He definitely needs to be separated asap. I'd go with putting him in his own cage and allowing supervised out of cage time and see what happens. Budgies can kill each other (although usually it's the females that are more aggressive), so it's best to remove him for now.

Oh my! Wow I did not realize this....thank you Carrie Ann! I can always count on you for advice. Why is he doing this? Any ideas?.

When I said he pins her down and she screams I knew that this was serious!. I am scared when he does this, he was such a nice bird, never bit us, he was almost like our little dog he followed us around the house when we first had him. He was our first bird and we had him for over a year before we brought more into our home. And now he is driving me crazy! I get soooo angry with him!

Generally, girl budgies are mor aggressive than boys, and having more girls than boys is not a good idea. It is very unusual that your male is the aggressive one.
I would seperate him for a while and only let them meet outside of their cages.

Is the male just sexually frustrated???? Is this way he is acting like a jerk? unsure.gif

Fyi… Freddie is the male;
Ginger is the blonde diva; and
Yuki means snow for our baby girl.
