The town I live in has had severe flooding problems this past winter because of Ice Jams on the river. It's grown to 11 km now, and because it's very cold, the ice jam is still growing. It's been going on since the beginning of December, and many people have been evacuated since then and have not returned to their houses. I even know a co-worker whose house was looted!!

They've brought in an amphibex in and it's cleared a path about 1 km so far. And soon, the city will start pumping hot water into the river to help clear it. A pic of it is attached.

my friend lives in an area that is having the same problem, although on a smaller scale. she isn't directly affected, thankfully. now we are going to have temps around 45F tomorrow, i think, which is awesome to me (i am so sick of winter and snow!). but the warm up then the re-freeze just complicates matters for those by the river.

I saw that crazy thing on the news working, it's amazing it stays afloat.

Do you live close to the river?

Oh wow! Scary stuff! I hope everyone is OK and that they have been able to prevent any flooding issues this year!

However, the snow and mountains sure are pretty!

I can't believe how long that jam has been going on. wacko.gif I heard there was a major break up today though. Hopefully mother nature will cooperate with all the other efforts that are being made. If that thing hangs around till spring thaw, it could get real ugly. dry.gif
