I know, it's sad. I can't tell if Elwood's recent behavior is being cuddly or not. In general, he doesn't like to be cuddled. He'll let my scritch his head and neck, but only if he's currently preening. Other than that, he doesn't like to be too close.

Anyway, he started doing this thing while we're playing. I'll take him on the floor while I'm laying on my side. He likes to pick at my shirt or any shiny buttons I might have on. However, sometimes he'll rub the back of his head on me. He'll even go so far as to roll a little on his side to get more of his neck/back touching me. He never rubs his tush or anything near it on me, and he's only about 10 months old. Maybe I can get a pic of it or something.

Any thoughts?

You know, some birds just aren't cuddle monsters, and they like to be touched on their own terms. Max is a lot like that. She won't let me hold her for hours and hours. She likes to mess around with my clothes, and chew on them. She'll let me hold her for maybe 5 minutes before she's off to terrorize some other body part laugh.gif But she likes to be close to my hands or my face and I think that is her way of connecting with me.

Your bird might be the same way. Him rubbing his neck/head against you might just be his way of connecting with you. Skin to feather contact. It doesn't sound like it's mating behavior, but it could be a change in his routine because lots of Quakers are feeling hormonal this time of year. I'm not sure I would discourage it at this point. Just enjoy it and see where it goes smile.gif

Pepper usually lets people touch and cuddle with him, but if he is really wanting some extra loving he will come up to me and lay his head in my head and nibble my thumb. I have learned that his way of saying "scratch my head".
