Hi everybody. I'm so sorry it took me so long to get on here and update about the babies, but we had family here for 4 days and my inlaws are still here. They had a change in plans and had to stay longer, but will be leaving Monday.
My dishwasher broke two weeks ago and I must be spoiled as washing dishes by hand is not an easy job when you have lots of company. We had 12 people staying here including us, plus each day we had my step daughter in law and her baby here visiting. Our home is only 1200 sq feet so when you add 3 big dogs and 16 birds, you really do have a house full.
Anyway first of all the picture here is Emma and Pierre's latest baby. When Carrie-Ann said Pierre nibbling at the baby's necks meant he wanted to get down to business with Emma, she was right. He was the only hatch and you can see his eyes are dark. He is now dark on top of his head and his wings are dark. He is exactly 18 days old.
This little guy is already in his new home though. A few nights ago I was checking on him and noticed his crop was awfully full. I had separated Emma and Pierre to get Emma away from the nest box and Pierre so I left Pierre in with the nest and the baby. I thought maybe Pierre was getting a little over zealous about feeding him. I had put that carefresh bedding in there to help keep him warmer since he was the only chick so I put some paper towel over that to see how his droppings looked. They looked normal that night, but when I checked him the next day there were a bunch of poop coated mini cotton balls all over the paper towel. he was passing the bedding. I called my trusted breeder and she said get him in his brooder that I had on hand and give him instant ounces and water every few hours to help him pass this and if his cropw wasn't empty by morning to get him to the vet. I was up most of the night weighing him, giving him the instant ounces and worrying. By morning although the crop had empty quite a bit, I called the vet and got him in by 9:40. Thankfully my favorite vet was in that loves Pierre and Emma. She used to breed tiels. TO make a long story short I was telling her I needed to find good himes for him and 2 other babies and she smiled ear to ear. The look on her face was like she hit the jackpot. The wheels were spinning and she said she'd take him right now and wave the crop cleaning fee and hospitalization fee. She wanted him for her mother. Of course I jumped at the chance since she first of all is an avian vet and secondly has hand fed babies many times. How could I and this baby go wrong. She said she might not be able to give him up after hand feeding so I told her no problem I have 2 babies at home for her mom to choose from. LOL
So he has doing well, his proceedure went well and he's doing fine. She will get a picture to me probably when he feathers out and I will post it here. She also will keep an eye and ear out for a great home for the remaining two babies that need a home. I have a home for one of them, possibly two.
Emma is in a cage by herself and laying again. My vet said to keep an eye on her. I have been shaking her eggs as fast as she's laying them. I left them on the bottom of the cage and just today she started laying on them. egg number three today. I have added calciboost to her water on top of the manu mineral block and cuttle bone. Emma and Pierre have both been depressed since I separated them and when I took the nest box and baby away from Pierre he got up on the highest perch in his cage and sat there like a stone and wouldn't even look at me. That only lasted 24 hours though and he's doing better today. I have decided to move Emma into the other bird room away from Pierre as soon as she's finished laying this clutch of eggs. I don't want to add stress to her during the laying process as I heard that's risky. She's going to lay them regardless so I want her to be as comfortable as possible. The vet and I talked about the possibility that she may need the shot, but it is risky so we don't want to do that. I have reduced Emmas light to only 10 hours a day and I will reduce it to 8 after I move her. I wanted to do it somewhat gradually.
As for the other three babies, they are doing so well. Starburst is completely weaned but the older two still beg once in a while and Pierre is feeding them. I think Pierre loves feeding his babies. The babies are now taking real baths and spreading their wings and tucking thier heads under and chirping for more. They are very lovely little birds and will step up and are pretty darn hand tamed too. They are learning when the food comes in in the evening to rush to the cage. At first I had to chase them down to get them in, but now they are getting more mature I guess and know that tomorrow is another day to be out of the cage. LOL
Anyway I will do better at updating now that things are calming down around here.

Thanks for the update and I'm really glad the baby is okay. I think the picture is cute, but his crop is for sure full!

Yes his crop is sure full there, but that was taken the day I tried to band him when he was I think 7 or 8 days old. He is a small baby so it fell right off. I had to wait till he was 11 days old to band him.
Unfortunately I didn't take but a couple pictures of this guy. Something told me to take one of him the morning I had him all cuddled up before I took him to the vet. He had his little head looing out the fleece blanky I had him in, but I thought I would have plenty of time to take more. I should have listened to my instinct
Emma is not laying on her eggs and must not have all night long as she was up on the perch when I checked her. Iguess she realizes it's too hard with them rolling around the cage. I shook them good this time in case some or all are fertile

Hi Kate,
I have a home for one of them for sure and this person might take two. She's thinking of Jellybean and Starburst. Or one or the other. IF my vet decides she can't part with the little baby she's handfeeding for her mom, she will most likely take a white baby for her mom. Were you still interested in a white baby? I'm just not sure I'm going to get them sexed at this point, so I wouldn't know if it were male or female is all. There will be no more babies after this from Emma and Pierre!! LOL

No more babies ever? Or are you just joking>. I do wish i could have a white male someday. But its not practical for me to try to get one of your babies here. Thanks for asking though. They are certainly pretty. Im sure you will find them good homes.

I just wanted to make sure you weren't changing your mind. I really am not cut out for breeding and this has all been more than I can really handle. If I didn't have 13 birds already it might be different. I enjoyed watching these guys grow up though and wouldn't change that for the world
I'll leave breeding up to those that have the patients and knowledge and experience. LOL

LOL,
Yesturday I was checking on the babies while they were out of cage. I had put a new air cleaner in there with a washable filter and hadn't yet figured out where to plug everything in. I had put a clock radio on top of a table in there and turned it on for the birds. The babies hadn't really experienced music yet. When I went in all three babies were on top of the radio and one was looking down on the speaker probably trying to understand what was comming out of it, why and how. i took a picture, but one had already moved on so I got two of them there. I will post it on the flickr site.

Kate,
the woman that's getting Jellybean or Starburst lives just north of Indianappolis. How far are you from there approximately?
