The breeder I got Flip from strongly reccomended Dr. Ds's Avian Pellets. Said she would feed nothing else! Also said to give veggies only once a week.
I contacted the manufacturer and was told "other foods" should make up only 10% of the diet.
I haven't seen anyone else mention these pellets. Does anyone feed them?

I have never heard of them but the website looks promising. I didnt have time to read through it all but here is it if anyone else wants to see. http://www.drdsavianpellets.com/

I use Doctor Harvey's sometimes which is what my vet recommended in addition to pellets. He feeds it to his birds. There website is http://www.drharveys...birds/index.asp

I checked out Dr. Harvey's and that looks promising. Some seem to have too much sunflower seed however. I like that it is all human grade ingredients and no by-products.
This looks good for a Quaker, doesn't it?

Not sure where my post went. I am a breeder and I feed Dr. D's avian pellets. I started out using roudybush and it was so expensive I started searching for a pellet that used almost the same ingredients. After alot of searching I found Dr. D's. I talked with them numerous times about their ingredients and how it compared to roudybush and found that the ingredients are almost the same. My birds immediately switched over and still love it. My only complaint is that the pellets crumble easily but other than that my birds do great on it. I do feed veggies almost daily there are a couple of days on some weeks that they do not get their veggies but not often. I feel veggies are very important part of their diet. I have a friend that feeds seed and veggies. I have purchased a couple of her birds and when you put hers up next to mine. The feather condition is so much better on my birds. They just appear so much healthier. Don't get me wrong her birds are healthy and I love her to death we just have different opinions in our feeding techniques. The difference in the birds is the pellets vs seeds. She feeds veggies just like I do. So by all means I do recommend Dr. D's avian pellets. I belong to another board and recently was chatting with a breeder that has been around forever with the quaker mutations. You all should know him as Tom the Quakerman. He feeds the very same pellets. He switched over a few years ago also and he has the same good things to say.

I don't use Dr. D's, but I have a good, online friend who just switched her birds over to them (all from her tiels to her macaws). Some of her birds, which turned their beaks up to pellets before, just dived into the Dr. D's. My friend is raving about them biggrin.gif

I think they would be an excellent choice for a pellet.

If you call Dr. D's they will tell you exactly how much to feed of what while on their diet. Some breeders offer a discounted price on buying the Dr. D's from them verses buying it from the actual website. We do. I love it and have been feeding for a quite some time and my birds love it as well!!
