I'm currently working on an uneccesarily complicated design plan for the top of duke's cage. I'm gonna build a cage into the top of it. So I will have somewhere to move him quickly, and also a place to put a perch and food. The left and right side walls will be fixed walls and probably about 14" high. Along the front there will be a 3" high brace that will run across the bottom front to reinforce the stability with a possible 1" brace at the top front. It will have two 12" doors on the front that will overlap the bracers. The roof will not be permenently connected, it'll be hinged to the back of the cage. To compensate. a 3" bracer will be located on the front of the top, and possible an additional one in the rear. The back of the cage will have a 6" bracer wall at the bottom. hinged to that will be an 8" wall that is also hinged to the roof making it where when released the wall and roof will come down laying flush against the back of the cage allowing the bird a free view of the front, rear, and above. I will also be installing a waste pan under the rooftop cage.

Anyways, I'm trying to build something really cool looking and functional. I like for my pets to have unique homes. It will be a tiny bit cramped at 12x12x14, but it's gonna be an open area aside from the two side walls, and will only be closed up if I need to secure him without putting him back into his main cage. Please leave your comments, questions, and suggestions, because I want to make this perfect for duke.

Hi am0z,

Cool idea making the cage unique.

Is the addition going to be removable so you can use it as an emergency cage for transport??

Enquiring minds wanna know wink.gif

I thought about it, but no. We have cages for transport, that are already decked out and ready for emergency travel incase the need arises. I'm also contemplating making it bottomless instead of putting a poopcatcher in. So that he can freely move from his cage to the top part. Of course if I do make it bottomless I'm going to have to redesign the depth o fthe top cage for mobility purposes. Also I'm working out the designs of a jungle gym to fill up the rest of the top part of the cage.
