I was wondering, Have any of you heard of "clorox anywhere spray" It isnt bleach, But it is an everyday sanatizing spray, And it says it is so gentle it is safe for use around children and pets, and it says you can even sanatize your pets dishes with it, So shouldnt it be safe to sanatize a bird cage with? With rinsing afterwards?

I've read a lot of things about anti-bacterial products that are so popular now and most of the health experts they quote in those articles say plain old soap and water does the same thing. I just put a drop of dishwashing liquid in a bowl and fill with water and use an old toothbrush to scrub and it works just fine.

TikiTimer - I just went through this exercise with my QP Dolce's "Pali Palace" cage. It is a powder coated steel cage, made in China, where else!!! huh.gif

My Dolce, like everyones QP is a great POOPER! I began seeing some rust in the powder coated joints.... dry.gif
My wife loves HSN.... and purchased the "SONIC SCRUBBER" for $20 at Walgreens.
I used "Clean & Simple" and a garden hose to mega-clean Dolce's cage with the scrubber! GREAT!!!
I called "Rust-o-Leum" about their "Appliance Epoxy White" spray paint..... They told me that their expoxy appliance spray paint contains no "lead"!
Only that it needs to be fully cured outdoors!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mixed vinegar and water in a spray bottle and it works great. I spray it on, leave it sit for a minute and then wipe it down. I do this daily to keep poop to a minimum and then the cage gets a good cleaning every weekend.

I use Pomolive and water and it is 100% safe and it does a great job. Of course I clean the cage top to bottom 3 times a day. I also clean my room three times a day so the dogs can come back and interact with my birds. They seem to really like the dogs.
Of course I drive the Nutz!

I use this all the time to clean my birds dishes,(and my dog) I spray them, let them set for several minutes then rinse thoroughlyandlet dry completely. I also use it on their playstands and to wipe dowm their cages. I always make sure they aren't near it and it's completely dry before they go back to it and I've never had any problems.

Well, I just got a steamer made by Shark and wow does it work!!! It pretty much blasts away all the poop and then you just wipe it clean and it is nothing more than water!!! It sanitizes too with the heat. I actually wish I had done that months ago because it cut my cage cleaning time down considerably!!! It was $100.00 at Lowe's. I highly recommend the steamer cleaning because it is easy.....lol and with 7 cages......anything easier is definately better!

Thanks for all the replies, Yeah the easier the better thats for sure! I have 3 cages to clean...Not as many as most of you though!
My neighbor has 2 Quakers that were rescues, and they dont want them anymore because they just dont have the time they need, And I want them SO bad...They are on an all seed diet, Not just seed but SUNFLOWER seed ohmy.gif It is all they can get them to eat, They know it isnt the best for them that is why they know they would be better off somewhere else..They are nice people and just want the best for them...Trying to figure out how to talk the hubby into letting me have them biggrin.gif Any ideas? I think this deserves its own thread! haha The quakers are also housed together....And are not friendly with humans, They dont talk, (which isnt a big deal) because they just are bonded with each other....Would it be bad to sperate them at this point? HELP!

I use the good ol vinegar and water, works quite well. I also have a steam cleaner that I use on the cages once a month for a really good cleaning.

TikiTimer -

dry.gif Cleaning is not the issue for me.... Vinegar and water, "Shark" steam cleaner, pressure cleaner, or a solution of "OxyClean' or "Clean & Simple" is great....

Cleaning my QP's cage is not the issue....

How about the issue of cage rust?????
My "Pali Palace" powder coated cage is rusting................

Kent,
Rust is no good! You need to do something about that or get a new cage!

Agree Completely!

I too have the Shark steam-cleaner.The thing works AMAZING! Does wonders for the mess my Greenwings make! Dodger's cage stays fairly clean (he is a neat bird smile.gif ) but his even gets a blast with the steam cleaner once a week. I paid about $100 for it, have had it 2 yrs and the money its saved me in cleaning supplies makes it well worth it!!
