Both my girls are 5 years old, well Nikki will be 5 on the 19th.

I notice that they are slowing down in terms of learning new words and tricks. I am teaching them both the word Ciao and I can tell they are interested but I am not not having much success. So far Nikki opens her mouth and nothing comes out and Sunny grunts or makes some gutteral sound LOL. Is there like a time period for when birds learn new words. I mean are they too old to learn anything.

Right now Sunny is hitting the keyboard with her beak and Nikk is nipping at my fingers as I type this.

Sometimes I feel like I am with Beavis and Butthead but I just love these two little feathered balls to death.

My Polly is 7 and has learned lots of new words and phrases in the last year and a half. Buddy is 17, not much of a talker, but has learned new behavior.

Maybe your birds are on a self-imposed sabbatical. cool.gif

Clyde learned a couple of new things right away after he came to live with us. Then he didn't learn anything for months. Then when Jade came, he learned a couple of things from her (and vice versa). Now both of them are in a not-learning-anything phase. I think it just comes and goes in spurts. We're about due for another bout of learning new things. laugh.gif Both of mine are adults -- Jade's almost 5 and I don't know Clyde's age.

I don't think they are ever too old to learn new things...but they might be interested in wanting to learn something new wink.gif I have a g/f whose 27 year old Quaker was still learning new words when he passed away.

That might work. They are both girls so I would say Ciao Bella. But I was teaching Nikki to say Tutto Bene and all she says is Tutto. Maybe I will drill Ciao Bella into their little brains LOL
