I am back on the hunt for new bird cages for TeiKei, Mega and Smokey. I came across these cages at Dr.s Foster & Smith and I was wondering if anybody knows anything about them. They look very nice, but I would like to have some first hand knowledge. This is the information I could find on them.

*Pet bird cage with acrylic front panel for seamless viewing - for you and your bird*Bird cage with LARGE access door - entire front panel of this bird cage swings open*Easy maintenance, bird access, and assemblyBird cage with acrylic front panel gives you - and your bird - crystal-clear viewing. Spacious bird cage also features a bowed design that gives birds more room and acrylic panel swings open entirely for easy cleaning access. Panel also helps keep seed and debris inside the cage. Use the two large, swing-open side doors for routine care. Steel bird cage with solid welds and textured gray powder-coat finish. Cage also comes equipped with pull-out grill, pull-out tray, seed guard, locking casters, and large playtop with several toy hooks. Medium bird cage size only includes large drawer at base for storage. Assembly required. Bar spacing: 3/4" Small, 3/4" Medium, 1" Large.

Includes: 5 ceramic cups with spill-proof holders and 2 natural wood perches (Small includes 5 perches).

A lot can be told about a bird by his home. In fact, the way our birds are housed has a tremendous impact on their susceptibility to disease, behavior problems, and breeding capabilities. To keep them safe, secure, and healthy, birds need a cage that is big on space, cleanliness, and intelligent design.

If you don't mind me asking, what brand cages did you buy, and why? And...are you satisfied with the cages and the customer service you received?

I have seen the small version of them in person at petco, and they seem cool but i dont know there is something that does not seem right couldn't put my finger on it til seeing this picture of a big one. It seems like it could block air flow(up against a wall), like even though it is a clear view, it is closed off? I wonder how the birds would feel? i almost wish it had a mesh front! but i suppose that would not work with nails and such! huh.gif dry.gif i dont know not much help i do know that!! sorry livelovelaugh always me thinking thru things, while writing can take you with me on a jouney to no where! biggrin.gif

We had one of these in a friends pet store that belonged to a Mollucan Too...It is a beautiful cage and the birds look amazing in them BUT...They do seem to restrict air flow when up against a wall, which if not cleaned DAILY can also make them more smelly ohmy.gif . The glass has to be cleaned daily as well and it was a pain in the tail. Of course it would have helped if Tiki wasn't so messy, but he liked to throw his fruit and watch it bounce off the glass or slide down it.

Yeah he was a little rotten rolleyes.gif .

Hope this wasn't too negative...just wanted to be honest.

i wouldn't like the acrylic door, but that could just be me. louie and goofy utilize their doors when navigating around their cages, so i think they would miss the open door design.

we are getting new cages delivered today. goofy and zuzu are getting new homes finally smile.gif zuzu is getting a cage that has an open door design, but then the entire front of the cage swings open too for easy cleaning (easy care freeport model) - it's bigger than louie's so i hope there's no issues on the booger's part because he will have the "shack" compared to the mansions the other birds will have. goof is getting one that is over 6 feet tall - i might have to crawl in there and get a pic of me all caged up lol.

the guy we met at our first bird fair, the guy we got louie's cage from, has a general store up past my mom's house, and he has a TON of cages that he sells at significant disount. he's also always been very customer friendly. anyone you can think of, personally or word of mouth, who could hook you up?

how come you are getting new cages? didn't you JUST get new ones? what happened?

good luck in your search. buying new cages makes me anxious. i don't want to screw up anything and make the fiddos unhappy. and to get them online would really kill me lol. i need the hands on aspect so i can see if i'll really like it.

I always like looking for cages, what part of the US do you live in?

I saw the small one in Petsmart and I did not like it, IMO. It looked like it woudl cut the flow off and it also seemed to be cheaply made, the metal and all. Maybe it was the way it was put together but it didn't look like it was too stable. It was like $250. Those metals just felt flimsy to me. I guess for a smaller bird ok, but a too or a macaw I would try it personally.

Plus like the others said, the cleanup would probably be harder, because you can't use windex or anything to keep the glass clean.

Just my opinion though

i'm in wisconsin, right in the middle between madison and milwaukee. our cage guy is probably close to 3-3.5 hours north, in antigo.

i guess my anxiety comes from not being able to get up close and personal with my choice. without seeing it in person, i'm not sure i'm going to think it's appropriate.

Have you considered a Kings cage? They often have a sale at their web site. I origianlly bought my first Kings cage because my cockatoo took his first cage apart! I went to a nearby bird fair and checked out the cages. So far for a mechanically-inclined Houdini the Kings cages so far have been the best suited and in my opinion have worked out for the best with my birds. They are expensive but after spending big $$$s for my first big bird cage and then having to turn around and buy another, it is worth it to spend a bit more initially than to end up buying two! Anyway sorry for my rambling. If you are not needing one right away, I suggest you check the bird fairs near you so that you can check them out to be sure they are what you are looking for for your specific bird. Good luck with finding that perfect cage at a good price!
