We are going to be moving. Can anyone give me tips on how to make it as easy a transition as possible for the birds?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Moonchild!! I have been surprised that this move i have made with my little GaZoo, has been so easy! I recently made a similiar post, because i am staying with my mom for awhile, i ll say that the one thing i did was get all of his things together last before i left and he did surprisingly well during our 14 hr drive. I have noticed that the fact that i took all his toys and everything with us for his new cage made it easier and i think just being with their loved ones makes all the difference. I mean i guess if you were moving them someplace with out having the security of you they would be a more stressful trip but i must also add my success that GaZoo is only about 5 months old. Best of luck because they are a babies and we want the best for them! livelovelaugh always Tinene

It shouldn't be anymore stressful for them than going to the vet...even less actually. Leave their cages set up just like they are if you can and just put them in their crates or what ever you travel with them in and Take one load over for the room that they'll be in and get it arranged, then take the birds and get them settled in and then move the rest of your stuff in...IF you don't have to go back and forth past them with all sorts of things...

Heck when I moved my birds from Spokane to the Tri Cities, I even left them in their cages and just secured the cages in the back seat along with the cat and the fish and off we went! Got there and they were no worse for wear.

Just remember, animals feed off your body language, if your nervous then they will be too...if you're relaxed and calm about it they should be too.

I moved 3 times in under a month argh.. I did what Connie and Sandi said and it worked like a charm.

I moved everything in before the fids, and then put them in their travel cages and took their homes and put them where they would be placed. Then I moved the fids in the last trip, and it was just like a visit for them laugh.gif

They did notice the difference in their surroundings, but it didn't seem to bother them much.

After the last move, I think they figured changing houses was a normal occurence bwahahahaaha. They both settled into this place fast.

Pretty sure it was way more stressful for me than them <chuckle>.
