My once loving Quaker has gone mean towards me! She's been lunging and biting and I have no idea what's wrong. She has laid three eggs in the past three week and she will not let me get them out...she pecks them and eats them until their is nothing left! She has never been this way towards me! She actually hated everyone else but me! Now she's being evil and I'm at my wits end with her. I have moved her to a dark room hoping that the egg laying will stop. What can I do to let her no that biting and biting is a Big No No??? Please Help!!! Any advice will be welcomed! mellow.gif

I hope this all passes. My baxter started being mean to me about a month ago and it only lasted a few weeks. I hope you work all you problems out. I know how it feels to be rejected from a loved one lol

She most likely is very hormonal, especially if she's laying eggs. She's in mamma mode and will protect them, and this means against her favorite person if necessary.

When you say you've moved her to a dark room, I'm assuming that she still does have some light during the day? They do need a good 8 hours of light to stay healthy.

Also, what happens when you get her away from her cage and play with her elsewhere? Does she settle down?

Sounds like she's just in a major nesting/hormonal mood. Reduce her daylight hours, don't remove them entirely. Also make sure that she has a little extra calcium in her diet to help with the eggs passing.

We are dealing with the same problem with our 7 year old Quaker. He was a loving kiss giving boy until two months ago. Now he bites and lunges at us regularly. You are not alone. We are trying to wait it out, and hope our sweet birdie returns to us soon. Try giving her more time, I know it's hard. I'm dying for a birdie kiss, he lunges at us instead and bites when he is on hand. Good luck, hopefully we will both make it through!

Sounds like hormones to me, too. And if she never laid eggs before, she might be confused about what's happening to her and lashing out and since you're handy, you're the target. I think I'd consult a vet -- there's something they can give them to stop the egg-laying and that might fix her mood, too.
