wub.gif Hi everyone,

I am packing my bags to make a 5.5 hour trip to pick up Grumpy from Mom and Pops. They have been working with my bird until I could come get him. Grumpy isn't so grumpy anymore and is making movements towards wanting to be given attention. So it looks like I stand a good chance of turning a bitter into a loving companion. Hopefully seeing my relationship with Snippy it will be all Grumpy needs to switch over. Wish me luck everyone smile.gif
I will be spending about a week with her before making the return trip home. So hopefully, she will start to warm up to me before making the long ride in the front seat of my truck. We are unsure of the sex but the groomer said he thinks grumpy is a girl. I had to bring my truck because of needing the long bed to pick up Snippy's original cage which Grumpy is using and to get Grumpy's Big Cage. Neither cage would fit in moms car even if taken apart [5 and 6 ft tall cages ... no wonder lol].

Best of luck! Refresh my memory -- what kind of bird is Grumpy? What's the story?

Having a grumpy bird myself, though she is improving, I know just how you feel. It takes a lot of work and time and there are days you just want to give up and say "Fine! Sit there and snarl all you want, I'm not going to try to be friends any more!" and then five minutes later she does something cute and all is forgiven. laugh.gif Every little bit of progress is a VERY big deal worth celebrating! Take a big helping of patience and then take some more and you'll get there. Eventually. tongue.gif

I am back from Florida, I have Grumpy home now smile.gif Grumpy is a TAG smile.gif While down there I talked to my Brother and he said that Grumpy was given to him because of a bird he bought died. The person who gave him to John said that he didn't have time to work on him, although he did work with Grumpy's brother. He said that the person who gave them to him had both brothers living in the same cage as wild birds. No handling, so basically I got a wild bird with very little human handling. My brother said that he tried with Grumpy and finally gave up and only handled him with gloves from then on out. After receiving many bites, which he said hurt even through gloves. So far I have been bitten several times, and not pleasant but no blood has been drawn smile.gif or broke bones. So I feel lucky so far.

Will do but sadly my online time for forums will be cutting back; fall semester is about to begin and it sucks up alot of my time. So everyone don't think I have left the site, only I will be busy with kids, fids, school and work. smile.gif Blessings to all and I will write updates when I have free time.

Love to all of you and thanks for all your advice,

Kat

Lastest updates on the fids smile.gif
Grumpy: Now comes out of his cage quickly and enjoys sitting on the play pen eatting his "Nutta Berries" [nutraberry] or apple chunks. He no longer tries to hide from me when I come near but will now come to the side of the cage to get a closer view of me. Still nips every once in a while, has not drawn blood or made bruises. when he flutters off cage... I use a towel to catch him. I then use that time to rub his head and coo to him. He will now allow me to make a nest in my lap with the towel and pet his back and head. The protests slowly have become a softly spoken quit and a pretend nip at. While the whole time careening his head to get better scritches and cheek rubs, closing his eyes like he's saying boy this feels good... I think he is so use to saying "quit" and doesn't know how to say good smile.gif After he is all loved up the quit gets louder so I ask "want to go back" and return him to his cage. I do know that when I ask him when I want him to go back to his cage... "Want to go back?" and he starts heading back inside his cage. I have to keep reminding myself, Grumpy was basically allowed to be a wild bird and for him to allow me to pet him like this is wide jumps in improvement. He no longer pins his eyes at me and just looks at me and I think is trying to decide if he likes me or not. I make sure he sees me playing and loving on all the other birds, which he watches very closely.

Snippy QP, has finally become well socialized... as far as allowing all in our house hold to step him up and play or pet him. Although with hubby he still wants to bite occasionally. Snippy has discovered most of the time he can hitch a ride on one of the family to get to me if I am out of the room. Little stinker has them wrapped around his toes to do his bidding. Daughter finally has gotten her wish to be able to love and play with Snippy, and she just thinks its great. The only time he will nip at her is if she's wanting to take him away from my shoulder. I have to move him from my shoulder and tell him to step up on her then hes good to go when he's like that.

Ok the boys Peawee and String Bean, are still carring on the under the blanket talking at night. Snippy is still talking up a storm at bed time. I can talk to him while he's doing this and he will keep repeating words. Now he's added baby to his word list. Still correcting me when I don't say the words he wants by getting louder so I hear him clearly.... Mom is learning to talk so I know he's excited.

Haven't had time to figure it out yet or set up a photo bucket account. Today was the first day of school and its always a crazy time for me for about 2 weeks. Plus mother in law has to have surgery on her eyes, so having to take neice to college and pick her up too. Oh and guess what Grump did tonight? He was playing peekaboo through a hole he had chewed in his cage cover. I asked "Where's Grumpy? and he would put his beak through the cage for me to rub the top of it. Then I would say "Peekaboo there he is" and we did that about 8 times. So I think he might be starting to play with me now. LOL omg Stringbean [green cheek conure] sounds like a grumpy old man grumbling under his cage cover and then he alternates with kissy noises. I have the most fun listening to these guys closet talk at night.

Quick update on Grumpy:

We moved his cage to the sun room because of fear of him hurting one of my conures for getting on his cage. Now Grumpy has the TV left on for him when no one is in the sun room. Well the night before. We openned his cage doors allowing him the evening out of his cage. Grumpy flutter flew from the playpen on top of his cage to the couch. He sat on the back of the couch, and let both hubby and myself pet him and give scritches. He sat there and watched tv with us for about 30 min. Then he decided he wanted to pull on my silvery looking watch band. I do hope for Grumpy one day to be a loving little guy. I did have to grab a towel to put him back in the cage. As I walked him back to the cage I gave the guy a kiss on the top of the head wub.gif telling him what a good boy he was. Just wanted to quickly up date everyone will check back when I get a break.

Will get more posted as soon as I can get a break from school, it will probably be around Thanksgiving. I am now able to pick up Grumpy bare handed.... Still can not get him to step up for me. I am trying to sneak around and get him to stand up on my hand.... Sadly I am carrying the battle scars from it. That's ok wub.gif I still love the little guy. Found out that Grumpy was rarely let out of his cage by anyone. Now he stays out when anyone is home. I can get him on the couch and when finished working with him say are you ready to go back? I put him on the floor and he walks back to the cage and pulls himself up and gets in it. I'll ask him if he wants to come out and he climbs out of his cage and goes up top. I can ask him to come up and tap top of purch with his drug of choice.... LOL a peanut... Up he goes to play top perch. I do now know he talks... when I am not in there he will call out loudly "Helloooo" .... "Prettyyy Birddd" ... It seems like he is saying I know you are in here now come talk to me.... smile.gif

Snippy still has me wrapped around his little toes, Peawee is still mocking me wub.gif and Stringbean is still mumbling when under covers.

He's a very smart little boy. LOL he doesn't like having his picture taken and will hide from the camera.
