I just wanted to say that I am very thankful that I have found this forum. When I got my baby QP I was totaly unsure of myself and very scared when Mater didn't eat like I was told he was! If I can offer any advice to any one that is thinking about getting a Quaker Parrot make sure they are COMPLETELY WEINED and eating on their own. It gets scarey sometimes especially when Mater won't eat like he should, or like I have been told he should be eating!
I would do all over again because it has been an experience that I will never forget! This experience has been rewarding in itself only because I know I am trying my hardest to do what is right for my baby and its funny right now I feel as I did the day I brought home my first born son and didn't know squat about raiseing a baby, this is so similar its unreal.
I have recieved some awsome advice on here and sometimes I think that if it hadn't been for NCVON I don't know what I would have done she has been totaly amazing in helping me.
I totaly feel like an idiot when I have to email her and ask her questions about certain things only because I blame myself for not being better informed of how to care for a baby QP and I had watched my sister feed her babies numerous times and I thought shoot if she could do I could too.. LOL HAHA
Well paitence is a huge factor and I thought I had lost it a couple of times but I found it quick.
But I wanted to say thank You so very much for helping me not become a basket case thru this experience..
THIS IS AN AWSOME FORUM!!!!
Thank you again

Mater did something tonight i have never seen him do and it kind of scared me then I remember seeing one of Yvonne's video's and I suddenly began to feel better.
I went to feed him tonight and he was actually hugry! He squated down arched his wings and held open his mouth and was actually shakeing and talking( baby squawking) it was so cute and when he was full he just snuggled down in my arms and went to sleep. I knew then we both were going to be ok. He was satisfied!!
Poor little thing i was begining to get worried about him,he had cut back on his eating and I didn't know what was going on but tonight he made up for the other two meals..
But i am very thankful for all the advice i have recieved!!

The squatting down and extending his wings is how some people believe the quakers got their name "Quaking" is what they call it. You are totally right, he was hungry. It is normal for them to start cutting back when they are getting ready to wean off formula. If you listen carefully, your little guy will tell you what to do.
Congrats on your new baby!! They are so so much fun.

biggrin.gif Thank you,,,
We are getting better at it slowly. He lets me know he is hungry now and at breakfast and lunch he don't eat all that much but when it comes to his dinner he wants it in a hurry and he will eat alot. Last night he ate like 17 cc's. i didn't think he would be that hungry cause he picks at his pellets and millet all day long..
But he is growing and gaining so we are doing ok

With all my babies its seems like the last feeding in the evening is the last one they give up. They will sometimes hang onto that one for a while. LOL Like a baby needing a bottle of milk before bedtime I guess. LOL

Thank you for the welcome..
Mater and I are doing great I think. He/she turns 7 weeks on Monday and He is virtually cutting his morning and noon meals down to almost nothing and he is eating like a little piglet at night.
But this forum has been a god send to me, because when I adopted him I thought I knew what I was doing, and thanks to this forum and with the help of NCVON, we are doing great...
I have went back and researched a lot on this forum just to make sure I'm doing things right and i have read some awsome advice on here.
I have had other birds before( still share custody with my cousin with me eclectus parrot) I know thats weird, and like I said in my first post in an emergency i would do it again, but doing it for fun i don't think I would do that... I have thought about it long and hard...
I know breeding birds I couldn't do., my nerves and my husbands nerves couldn't handle it.. I'm always scared i'm not doing something right...
My confidence(sp) level has went up a lot just by being on the forum, but not enough to do this with a bunch of babies...LOL
Thanks again for all of the help and the advice..
I am posting new pics on Monday..
Thanks again
Cindy

I think I have my proudest moments with him when he is doing the "shaking" thing while he is eating, and it is the cutest thing I have seen! My youngest son told me tonight while i was feeding him ( he is only 7) he says" momma he acts like you are his momma, I said well baby I am his momma like Im yours, he said momma, I am proud of you for being this babies momma he needed you to be his momma. I literaly went into the bathroom and I cried for 20 minutes.
