Seed should be fed in moderation......meaning a treat once in awhile. Anyway that is my opinion and from experience.......Nutraberries are seeds with some kind of guck around it to make it stick together. My quaker, Mr. Kiwi was on a seed and pellet diet for the first 4 yrs of his life, suddenly he was sick.....I took him in to the Vet and he was diagnosed with a high liver enzyme count.....My Vet told me that I needed to get him OFF of seed. I did and after over a year, he was retested and he was ok and now today he is having his 10th HATCHDAY. Kiwi might get a nutraberry about once a month if that......

I've been feeding 2-3 Nutriberries and/or AviCake squares a day for the last couple of years. Pugsly's regular wellness blood work has been normal. The couple of vets he has seen have all said he was solid and healthy, but not chubby at all. He does get some seed in his diet, but I probably wouldn't recommend feeding ONLY Nutriberries. The AviCakes have some pellet mixed into them with seed, but the Nutriberries seem to be mostly just seed. I give them more for texture variety in his diet than for anything else. He seems to like the AviCakes better than the NBs tho.

Mine both LOVED Nutriberries for a treat and got a couple a day for months and then suddenly decided they hated them. The same day! Handed them their usual Nutriberry when I got home from work and they spit them out and glared at me. ohmy.gif Next time I made a pet shop run I got a different flavor. Also rejected. huh.gif Ooookay, no more Nutriberries. Now they get pumpkin seeds for treats. The good news is, when they took to spitting them out, my Lab ate the ones they dropped. laugh.gif She'll eat anything. She even likes the mango bits that come in the jar with pumpkin seeds from the pet shop, and the birds won't touch those, either.

Depends how desperate Kiko is for her seed fix. I've got her down to a quarter of a teaspoon a day and she's happily munching her pellets. Considering the time of year, pumpkin seeds seem to go over just as well and they're a heck of a lot cheaper. (I picked up three massive pumpkins for 1.98 each the day after Halloween and froze some of the seeds.) There's a recipe on here somewhere on how to make your own "nutriberry" type treat but heaven help me if I can remember which post it was in. When I first signed up to the forums I read through ALL of the backposts. *eyes cross* I didn't want to reask questions that had been answered a dozen times already.

My fids very rarely get nutriberries. I have never bought them and never would, but I have a truck load of samples here that I will use up. When they are gone they will be gone for good. They really can't be that good for them. Most of them look like fatty seeds (sunflower, safflower) with a couple tiny pieces of fruit held together by molasses.

You buy them. There are veggie ones and 2 different fruit ones I think. Pico likes the Papya and pinapple kind. He gets 1 or 2 a day.

Our baby loves his nutriberries! He usually gets at least one a day and I stick one in the bottom of his pellet bowl to find on a rainy day. I don't think they're bad if used in moderation, but I do alternate between those and avi-cakes which have the pellets as well.

Nutriberries are great. As a treat.

If you look at the ingredients, the majority of the ingredients are fairly healthy. Cracked corn, hulled millet, safflower, Malto-dextrin (basically sticky corn starch to hold them together) red millet, pineapple, papaya, mango, peanut hearts, corn syrup....thats the tropical fruit blend. They also use tocopherols as preservatives, which are basically vitamine E, and lots of vitamin supplements. Better than potato chips in my book.

It's still not a diet, it's a treat. No more than one a day with my flock.

I guess I never really look at all the flavors, just the ones they sent me. The fruit and veggie ones wouldn't be so bad. Thanks for letting me know, as the ones I was sent seem to be all high fat high sugar ones. I will take a look at the different flavors next time I'm out. smile.gif
