What does it mean when tail feathers and wing feathers fall out? Is this a normal process? She is 8 years old now. Is this normal? She isn't molting either.

Feathers don't ordinarily just fall out, except during a molt. Are you sure your QP isn't molting? If not, you may want to schedule a vet visit to find out what's happening.

how many feathers are we talking about? When they're molting -- and birds who live inside don't necessarily molt at the same times they would living in the wild -- it may look like they're losing a lot. But if there aren't any visible bare spots and new ones are coming in to replace them, it's nothing to worry about.

Birds can lose a lot of feathers all at once if they're frightend (like if a cat tried to grab one.) Usually, though, it's molting.  My quaker sometimes has molts where she loses a ton of feathers at once, and then other molts where it's gradual.
