my beloved fid has gone. i came home from church last night to find that he was no longer with us. my best friend is gone and i am heart broken. words can not express the sadness i have right now. i'm at work but i don't know if i can last the day.

. my morning routine has been thrown out of alignment. as i was leaving i caught my self telling merlin bye and to be a good bird and i would be home this evening....time just goes by too quick

I am soooo sorry for your loss!

Having lost Shrek less than a year ago, I can tell you that it *will* get easier with time and perhaps you'll be able to find a place in your heart for another fid, even if not a QP.

I'm so sorry! I hope you will not mind my praying for you and that the pain of Merlin's loss will ease. Forgive me for mentioning this but I would like to suggest a necropsy. Perhaps it is just me and my need to know but I do think it is a good idea if you can. We are here for you if you need us or just want or need to talk.
Hugs,

merlin was a tad underweight though he has been on a special diet for quiet some time. he also had a cut foot that didn't seem to heal right even after a $400 vet bill. plus he had a very hard start on life before i rescued him. was on a very poor diet and quite depressed. but he had a happy life after living with me. i gave him that much and he gave me so much more. my husband said that he was my angel that took care of me before he (my husband) came. we both over came depression together. i will never forget him.

I've had merlin for 6 years. i really don't know how old he was. the lady i bought him from said he was a year old. so if she was correct he was 7.
my hubby offered to get me a new fid but i don't know if i can open my heart to another fid. merlin was special.

I'm sure your Merlin was special....I just hope that you will consider a necrospy so as to find out if anything could have been prevented for the future of helping another baby...
Being Merlin was a rescue it could have been something that started long before you got Merlin.... Please let us know what your decision is....
My best to you......(((Hugs)))

whenn i took him to the vet for his foot he said that merlin was very sick and tested him for various avian diseases. he mentioned that merlin had some sort of viral disease i can't remember the name he gave me for it but he did say that merlin didn't have much time left with me. i didn't want to believe it but i guess he was right.
LuvMyHarley1
Mar 27 2006, 03:43 PM
Hmmm Viral disease? How does this start?....Can anyone enlighten my knowledge on this....I sure would like to know...So are you going to bury little Merlin (or maybe have already)?.....My heart sures aches for you....
merlinsmommy640
Mar 27 2006, 04:17 PM
because i live in an apartment i have no where to bury him so my dad is coming to pick him up to bury him on his place under a bird bath so nothing can get to him. mom's bird bath is located in a beautiful rose garden. quite a rememberance of my little guy

I found his lab work up sheets that the vet gave me. merlin had PDD or Proventricular Dilation Disease. also known a macaw wasting disease. there is no known cure. but its nice to know that merlin doesn't hurt anymore he's free and healthy

I'm so sorry! But oh, my gosh--six happy years with you, that's wonderful! He was a happy, loved boy and he gave you something special, too, and you'll carry that forever. Sending you a <BIG HUG> Maybe you can plant or place something in/near your mom's garden just for Merlin.

An avian vet could perform a necropsy on the bird, similar to a human autopsy, to determine the cause of death, if the body had been refrigerated (not frozen). Otherwise, there is no way to ever know for certain what really happened. I am so sorry for your loss.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I too lost both of my beloved fid's and I truly understand how very empty a home can feel without them. I am still trying to work through my grief, but each day I come to this site and look through every picture and movie and it has helped me to come to terms with my grief. The comments and words of sympathy that I have received through this community has worked wonders to soothe my heart as well. I do hope you can find some solace here too.
