I spent alot of time and nurtured many many sore and bleeding fingers..but managed to teach them to trust me and let me handle them.It was a very rewarding experience when they both began ' kissing' me and stepping up..by the first year of them living with me they had become loving and affectionate..spening the majority of their time out of their cage.
The female ,Pebbles, laid an egg in june of '05.the next morning as the sun came up..i noticed that only one of my birds were singing to the sunrise..which was very unusual..the both welcomed the sun VERY loudly every morning.I went to check on them to find the Pebbles sitting on the bottom of the cage and Bam Bam pacing back and forth on one of their perches..not concerned yet..i started my day.
A few hours later i did figure there was a problem and took her to the vet..who told me that she was just acting strange because she had laid her first egg.Returning home her condition continued to become worse..the worse she got the more upset her mate became.
I had decided to wait out the night and take her for a 2nd opinion the next morning..however she did not make it that long.We discovered that she had an impacted egg..the vet that sent us home was very apologetic for not treating her..but i was sooo angry!
Bam bam just seemed to lose his zest for life after she was gone
I will miss them always..they will hold a special place in my heart forever..
