hi to all,ive noticed that on some food list for quakers i see jalapeno peppers as a treat etc. only i have checked out so mny lists and i know all the rights and wrongs and diffeence between treats and nutritious items. only what form do i feed the jalpeno peppers? i know they are spicey and think would the poor parrot cope if i flap about like a cat on a hot tin roof when i eatthem, so if you just tellme howi prepare or offer this to my fid itll be great. thanks for your time RIch (uk)

Rinse them really well, cut them up, and voila!! You've got a wonderful, tasty, treat that your bird will love!!

Parrots don't have the same type of taste buds that we do, they seem to be able to tolerate the spicy stuff.

One word of advice, if you do offer your bird spicy foods, be careful of those birdie kisses. You'll burn your mouth if his beak touches yours. ohmy.gif

Hi Rich, I just wash them good and dry them and slice them up. My quaker won't eat very much of the pepper itself but he will eat the seeds inside everytime. laugh.gif I also buy those long red dried peppers that come in a big cellophane bag and he cracks them open and eats all of the seeds. Murphy even asks me for a hot pepper. I also give him the peth and seeds from bell peppers as he won't eat the pepper itself.

I know it's ALWAYS better to give FRESH fruits and vegetables but would it hurt to give a sliced jalapeno from the jar?

Other than fresh, dried fruits and veggies are still healthy too. wink.gif As for the Jalapeņo from a jar, I think it depends what the other ingredients are... not sure but if it's just Jalapeņo and water, I think it'd be okay but most likely they are preserved with salt or vinegar, right? Do you know the ingredients? Probably a little bit wouldn't hurt though.

Casey only likes the hot seeds anyways and won't actually eat that much of the pepper itself! biggrin.gif

Sorry, I'm not such a great help!
