Full Version: Pvc Playstand

Here's the first attempt I made at a playstand for the fids.
As you can see, it is free standing, but I have it sitting on
a patio table to get it off the floor.

The colored bars are Vet Wrap. It is like gauze, used to wrap
horses ankles. It sticks to itself and comes in many colors.
It gives them something to grip, as the pvc is slick.

It is not glued together, as the vetrap holds it in place
in case you change your mind and want to rearrage it.
You can hang toys all over it, add ropes and ladders to climb on, too.

The baskets shown above also make great perches to take your
bird into the kitchen or tv room. It gives a good grip and a
place to catch the droppings, too, if you line it with napkins.

Those are great ideas Gail. I was just telling Doug last night that we need to figure something out for Baby & Squeek. I think they're getting bored, and it's pretty expensive to buy a playgym. Thanks for the pics I'm going to copy off you! biggrin.gif tongue.gif

Thanks. This was a suggestion from another forum member, so I cannot take all the credit. It's fun to share toy ideas. I love making things for the fids, too.

Good Job Gail and looks like the fids are enjoying it immensely.

Just a ballpark figure...........how much do you think you put into it?

I am sending my daughter the picture, maybe she can come up with something for mine.

Thanks, Sandi. It probably didn't cost me $10 for all the pieces, pipes, connectors and vetrap. And, you can just cut it with a hacksaw, no special power tools needed.

I didnt make this myself, but the man I got Rosie from made it and gave it to me along with the tiels and their cage.

It took me awhile to figure out how to make the PVC grippable for the fids, but I heard someone mention vet wrap and a light bulb went off ph34r.gif so I went to Pet Supplies Plus (love that store! smile.gif ) and bought some. The red is all vet wrap. I just wrapped the PVC with it.

The perches have sand perch paper on it but it would spin. The vet wrap stops that so they still have sand perches, as well as vet wrap to grab onto. The beads are Mardi Gras beads. They love em! I need to get a couple more hanging toys for them and a rope or ladder or two to transfer from one perch to another, but they are climbing all over it as it is.

It is on wheels so I can move it around, too. The base catches MOST of the seeds and poop and it is easy to clean as it is painted/sealed. I just shop vac the base and can wash the poop off whenever it needs it. I put food cups on the top so they can catch a snack while they are playing too. So they have it all! Spoiled little fids! wub.gif wink.gif

I wanted to bump this thread back up. A few people have asked me about the toys I have made for Skyler, and I thought some of the new folks might want to see this. I think it's a super cool idea! I'm gonna copy it -- Well, I'm gonna have hubba do all the work -- I'll supervise wink.gif

That's so cool! I need to find out how to make a playstand!

That is GREAT! Good Job!

I'd like to mention one thing about the vet wrap. It gets really sticky when wet, and stays sticky once dry. So, I guess just don't spray your birds, give them a shower, while on it. And if it gets really dirty or poopy, remove and replace the vet wrap.

OOH, what a great idea! I went out with my dad to menards and got a bunch of stuff for my CAG playstand... and I was befuddled as to what to put on it so as to make it less slick. I am proud to say that I only bought ONE toy from a bird store... the rest of them have been completely home made things from craft stores... I go to bird stores and spy around and get ideas... the best part is that I have TONS of left over toy making material and the birdies have more toys than room to put them! Plus, it keeps me busy and I LOVE IT! Even my parents are impressed. It has cost me literally one quarter of what it would have cost buying everything pre-made

I think this is a really neat idea! I hadn't thought of the vet wrap! I bet they like the wrap because it's not slick! I am going to give that one a try! Thanks for sharing your idea! smile.gif

It looks like you've made a really neat play area for your birds! I bet they really enjoy it!
