Full Version: Goodbye, Waffle

My poor baby, Waffle, had to be put down today because of a respiratory infection. She was my first Quaker, only 10 months old, and my best friend. I can't stop crying.

I've never posted here before, but I read the posts faithfully every day, and I've so loved reading about all of your wonderful fids and seeing their photos and videos. Thank you so much for sharing them.

Stacia, you have my deepest sympathies! sad.gif

I, too, recently lost my first bird ever -- a Quaker, and my best friend, Peanut. He was just thirteen months old when he left us, and to this day -- nearly one month after he tragically died -- I still have difficulty looking at his photographs and videos.

True, your life might be different without Waffle. But please trust that each day will be just a bit easier to get through, and eventually, you will realize that Waffle was in your life for a very good reason. At the same time, you were in her life for a very good reason too. You know that special bond that only us Quaker people know!

And remembering that special bond, when you're ready, maybe you'll even find room in your heart and home to welcome another Quaker into your life to fill the void that Waffle left behind. smile.gif As everyone here told me: it would be a true honor to Waffle! You'd be showing Waffle that you had such a great experience, and you enjoyed her company so very much, that you'd be willing to share your life with another Quaker.

Stacia, take care of yourself. Be well, and stick around. I think you'll find, like I did, that this forum is full of great, supportive people who are willing to help you through this emotional time.

If you feel as though you might like to talk to someone individually, I invite you to send me a PM, or you can even send me an e-mail at dmoulto1@dmmoulton.net. Hang in there! wink.gif

Stacia,
My heart goes out to you with the loss of your Waffle. I pray that the pain of losing Waffle will ease. It never completely goes away but the pain does ease with time. I too, hope when the time is right for you that you will consider another Quaker, not to replace Waffle but to fill that Quaker void that one has when they have been owned by a Quaker and then no longer have a Quaker. There is something about Quakers that once you have been owned and loved by a Quaker it is hard to be without one ever again.

Hugs,
Jan, Taavi (QP), Tory (M2) & Jesse (LSC2)

Oh that poor baby. Did you know for sure that there was no other way of helping her? Maybe you should have gotten a second opinion at another Avian Vet? That is what I would do....But I am so sorry about your baby. I lost my Zeta, a Quaker, last year. It was the hardest thing I had ever gone through. sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

I'm really sorry to hear that. sad.gif I hope that you heal soon. Like the others have said...once you have a quaker, there's nothing like them. smile.gif I lost my dear Azul, and she was my first blue quaker...I hope to have another one someday (well, I have a pair, but that's not the same), and I'm sure that in time you will want to honor waffles with another quaker. smile.gif
