I had to put my cat Shany down yesterday. This was the hardest and most heartbreaking thing i have ever had to do. I love my Shany very much.

About 2 weeks ago i woke up in the morning to find Shany groaning. He was walking into walls, not eating or using his litter. He was then hospitilized for 5 days while being tested and rehydrated. Turns out he had toxoplasmosis and was temporarily blind with extensive neorological problems. I took him home and was to give him 3 doses of clindamycin daily. His vision returned but his lack of awareness, and balance remained. He also would not eat, drink or use his litter.

I had to feed him throughout the day through a syringe. I also had to clean all his messes which unfortuanatley he would sit in. Once the medication was finished and no improvements were made i had no choice.

Its so sad when a helpless animal is sick, I grew even more attached to him during the two week ordeal where i basically was his round the clock caregiver. I just wish he could have recovered.

I'm so sorry for your loss, but you did the right thing. Right now he is in no more pain and looking down at you wishing you were not so sad. Hugs to you in your grief.

Its horrible to see them suffering in that way and to have to make that kind of decision but you did the right thing for him. My thoughts are with you. I have had 7 cats, got 2 at mo its a difficult time for you xxx

So very sorry you've lost Shany. Terribly difficult to do. A very caring thing to do. It's our responsibility to do all we can to make them well and then to send them on ahead if hope is gone.

It's a horrible thing to have that decision forced upon you. I've been there, and you're right, it's the hardest thing in the world to do, even though you know you're doing it out of love.

So sorry about Shany. I've had to do that myself...it is such a hard decision,even when it is the only decision. Thoughts and sympathy are with you.

Isnt it so hard when we lose the ones we love so....they become milestone markers in our lives don't they! But markers of love. I am so sorry that you lost your friend!

Yes he really was a friend and it feels like a big void in my life now that he's gone. He was only 5 years old which makes it even harder.

sending you hugs and kisses I totally understand what your going through I lost my dog recently and putting her down was very hard. Its just eerily comforting that he is not suffering anymore, but now he is still following you around and always near you though you cant see him. that is your little guardian angel
