Maybe things are getting to be too much for me? Maybe I am too overwhelmed with the baby, the pets, work, the rest of my family??

Today an accident happend that should not have ever happend, and I am to blame.

I am just sick to my stomach, and I feel so horrible!! I preach to my family, tell them what they can and cannot do with the birds out. And today, I didnt follow my own rules.

Sunny (Jim's sun conure) had to be moved away from the rest of the birds. He had a horrible attitude towards all the birds, except Lymon. He was horribly attached to Lymon, and wouldnt let us near her when they were caged together, so we moved them.

Sunny wasnt clipped because he would draw blood and inflict harsh pain on anyone who gripped him in any way. We were going to clip him this weekend, as Jim is the only one who can tolerate the pain and bleeding from Sunny's beak.

So, we kept Sunny in the bathroom. This way, we had control of where Sunny could be if Ansley or I had him out. Jim would bring him out to the rest of the house, because he had a respectfor Jim and would stay with him and not wander off like he did for Ansley and I.

I use all natural cleaners, and this way when I spent my time cleaning the bathroom, Sunny could be out and about with me, usually on my shoulder or head telling me what spot I missed on the sink.

Sunny and I were picking up in the bathroom this morning. Lucas was napping... so it is my time to get my other things done.

Lucas started to whine, and it wasnt a horrible whine.... but I went to check on him anyways. I put Sunny back on his cage.

When I came back in, he wasnt there. He was in the toilet. It was only a matter of 5 or 10 minutes at the most. Sunny is gone, and it is my fault!!!!

Sunny would dive in to any water he could to take a bath, include Jim's large water glass! lol

I am constantly telling everyone that NO WATER can be left out. No mop buckets, toilet lid down, no birds out while boiling ANYTHING on the stove, or while doing dishes. And I kill Sunny today.

I am just sick.

If nothing else, please please take this as a reminder the do's and dont's of parronthood.

We rescued Sunny from an un-loving, un-caring, un-social enviornment. We didnt realize why she got rid of him until about a month after we had him. We had discussed giving him up, but we took in a problem bird... I didnt want to make him anyone else's problem...or make his issues worse. So, we adjusted to Sunny's quirks.

Please please please be careful what you do in your home daily. THINK before you do anything... apparently I didnt today.

Sunny, I will miss you.. I am so sorry for what I did.

Heather, accidents happen...you were doing things in the order of priority...baby people, birds...Sunny was cared for the first time in his life and he left with that. I am so sorry that it happened though. sad.gif

Heather,

I feel bad for you, I know exactly how you feel, I lost a bird because of not paying attention.

Think of this as a learning tool for all of us. We have all learned that it only takes a matter of seconds for something awful to happen to a loved one, be it furry, feathered or human. And we have to do all that we HUMANLY can to prevent bad things from happening to our loved ones.

I believe that things happen for a reason, and though they might be terrible and hard to deal with at the time, sooner or later a little light will come on and you'll know.

I know this doesn't help with the hurt and guilt your feeling at the moment. But just know that Sunny's spirit is flying with all the heavenly creatures and is in a much better place.

Again, except my condolences. As others have said, don't beat yourself up over this. You were doing what you needed to do and just got side tracked that's all...that's why things are called accidents.
