The quaker I am bringing home to work with on Saturday is cage agressive. From the pictures I have been given his cage is in the middle of a room and has only two toys.
I've been thinking that part of his agression might be linked to the cage positioning. From what I can get from the current owner that's where is has always been.
A friend has a corner cage (which I love and is not available normally) for sale. It's in great condition and I'm checking on the bar spacing, but I think it's 1/2 to 3/4".
Do the rest of you think that a corner cage might help this quaker feel more secure and less threatened?
I'll have to hit the CC to buy it, but I am willing to if others apart from me think it might help.

Corner cages are great space savers, it might help but it's hard to say. I think even just putting his current cage in a corner or against the wall would help

I agree with Catherine. Although, changing his cage altogether might just help with the cage aggression too.

LOL he's not staying in the current cage. Much too small. I have a 24 by 20 cage already, but I think the bar spacing will be too big.
I talked to my friend and she's going to try and help me by delivering it too. I think I'll try this corner cage and what's the worst that happens? I have another cage lol

Well, in my humble opinion, its not really going to make a lot of difference what sized cage it is..It might help for a while till he gets used to the cage and the new atmosphere...But cage aggression is being territorial...You could put him in the bathtub and he'd pretty much defend it as his territory after a while. You can lesson the effects of cage aggression by showing him that you aren't going to tolerate him being bitey and mean, by making him do what you want him to do it, when you want him to do it...And that is by going in and taking a few bites and letting him know that you are top bird...and when you ask him to step up...that's what he is to do...
Granted, I'd give him a while to settle in. But...since there will be a honey moon period I'm sure, you might want to use that to your advantage.
You don't have to be mean about it just persistant...And know that you're going to take a few bites...
The fact that he was out in the middle of the room probably over stimulated him and didn't give him enough down time to recouperate. I'd be cranky too if I didn't get some time to myself.
Just my 2 cents worth...

LOL I'll take 2 cents from you Connie any time, hell I'll even take 4 cents.
I think you are right about the honeymoon period and am going to do a lot of work with him then.

I have always wanted to get one if the corner cages, the only thing I don't like is they don't have a seed guard. I think a new cage will help with aggression temporarily but as I am coming to understand...birds that are cage aggressive are usually that way because they have pretty much been cage bound their whole life and the cage becomes their territory.(this is a general statement, some birds that are not cage bound are still somewhat cage aggressive) However, that doesn't mean with love, patience and understanding they cannot be wonderful companions. I do think most birds like having walls at least on 2 sides, and it may be better to the bird when in a new environment to be more in a corner or at least with walls on 2 sides. JMHO as I am learning these things first hand with Miss C.G..

Did you get a corner cage? I am thinking about getting one for Mékhé for when we redo the office. I wish they made one smaller as he doesn't need a huge cage b/c he is out all day and only sleeps in it!

I actually found a place here in Tulsa that has one so I was able to see it in person. I really like it! I am thinking about getting Mékhé one when we redo the office.

Hey Kay? You really like those seed guards, eh? I have to say that I took mine off all my cages. I just found them more annoying than helpful. I still have the exact same amount of pellets on the floor without the guards
The feeding dishes in my cages are at the middle of the cage. So when the birds eat the seeds, they manage to fling them over the seed guards anyways.
