I forgot to thank all of you for your help.....and thoughts...you are a wonderful group to be with. Can I stick around even though I only own a cockatiel at this time?

BTW I am going to get tests done to determine if what Wicket had was contageous, so that Gobo will be alright. Now comes the hard bit of disenfecting the room, the cage (hard to look at this time)

I will have to make some memorial to post here for him.

I wish I could have done more...I apologized to him for having him to have to suffer so long..and I wished I could have made him better through these very long 6 months.

oh dear,

i can understand your feeling. its hard to lose a fid' But at least he's not suffering anymore. I know about the whole 'waiting for me to pass on' some birds do that i think just to make sure your going to be okay, they need the cuddles like we do. As for those that pass on wduring times we are not there, i guess they feel it was there time and you dont need to be there for it.

I've lost quite a few birds during many years and i noticed a pattern, but thats me. Sometimes they wait and sometimes they dont, it usually the sunky ones that 'leave without saying good bye in my case.

You are of course welcome to stay! If you left we'd have to drag you back. You're not alone, I know a few members here don't have QPs... we welcome lovers of birds all shapes and sizes!

Wicket was lucky to find you, and I hope your 'tiel offers you comfort and support during this time.

Oh Carolyn, I am so sorry to read about Wicket. I received your email and I thank you for sending that to me. I will also reply to you privately through there.

I am happy that you were there with Wicket during his last moments. Remain strong and take heart in remembering the special time that you had with him.

Ah! That is so sweet! Thank you Majj. Can I use it in my signature? And post it in my 'blog' at carolyn.fotopages.com?

All you friends of fids are great! It keeps me going. I just made up some nice photos of both my birds to frame...and I created a nice thank card to my vet, Dr. Lisa Watt, who has been amazing. I will post the one of Gobo at my gallery album. It turned out great!

I will eventually find another companion bird to keep both Gobo and me company. Don't know if I'll get another Quaker at this time, or another small fid. I know there are lots of choices out there.

My vet did mention she knew a reputable breeder of Quaker Parakeets in town though...

Oh Carolyn, I was so sad to see this post tonight.

I am so sorry. Our little guys that pluck and mutilate hold a special place in our hearts because we try so much to help them and make sure that they are happy despite these issues. We'll keep you in our thoughts this weekend, and I'm so thankful that Wicket had you for all these months. Sending you hugs across the miles - Mary and Petey
