Last week I wanted to take Kiwi with me to my fiance job to surprise him (by shwoing him she was out) I didnt have another cage to take her in, so I used a dog travel carrier that I had ( looks like a duffle bag but top and sides have mesh and open) Kiwi didnt really mind it, and she LOVED getting out and seeing other people and things, however the bag is a bit big to me, I was thinking of getting a travel cage so I can take her out more often, her wings are clipped, however Im to afraid to just take her out on my shoulder.

I saw a few listed online, and am considering it, just wondered if anyone else uses one or might have a better idea.

I dont think I can use the flight suit or harnesses as I dont see Kiwi letting me put those on her yet.

Any ideas?

I use a 12 x 12" rat cage for our travel cage. It works quite nicely, and it only cost abou 15 bucks at pet co. I'm able to attach all the things that I need to the inside, and it's not to cumbersome to carry around.

I use a travel cage. Mine is pretty cool it has a shoulder strap so that its easier for me to carry him too. The one thing my bird hates is for his view to be blocked he likes to see where he is going to the travel cage is another perk. Its also easy to seat belt it into the vehicle.
I should add if you have airbags in the front its safer to buckle them into the backseat because airbag deployment and travel cages dont go hand in hand.

We have a small carrier that has a small slide door on top.But Dodger is tether trained so I only use this for car rides.

I use a small finch cage. We don't travel much. Just to the vet. Louie loves to hang out on top of this cage. I walk her from room to room. I can put it down anywhere. on the dresser the table. The floor in the bathroom while I shower if I can't get her to come in shower. It also helps me to get her off one cage to another. She has three other cages. She loves to do weeee on it. I hold it up in the air and slowly bring it down and say weeeee! I lock the door open and she goes in and out for treats.

I have a travel cage. It is real big but then it is strictly for taking them in the car to their destination, providing it isn't a long trip. Then I have another cage that is bigger and if we are staying at our destination then I have something to put the FIDS in.

I feel like you may have a hard time getting your QP through the door of some of these. I looked at travel cages for a long time and the consistant problem with small bird cages was that max would never fit through the door easily. I use a cat carrier. (The plastic type with a metal grate door). I drilled a hole in the side and can attach a perch through the hole.

Good for you!!! It drives me nuts when I hear/see people taking their clipped birds outside with no protection.

As for those cages, I don't like the last one because it is round. The other ones are alright, but as was mentioned, you may have troubles getting your QP out of them. It's hard to tell how big those doors really are.

If you are just using the travel cage to get from point A to point B, then a small cat/dog/rat carrier will work just fine. You can drill holes in the sides for food/water/perch, plus what I like about them is that they are pretty much enclosed, which offers the bird a bit more security then an open cage.

For extended visiting purposes, a cage would obviously be the better choice though.

This is a good point, I couldn't use my carrier for normal extended stay. I say normal because the vet suggested I have Max's leg band removed so she didn't get it caught in something. Well they broke her leg trying to take it off. She's a little crippled now but the point is that she couldn't be in a normal cage while she had the splint so the vet recommended she stay in the carrier. Because I could add a perch she had the ability to get used to perching again before moving a cage that offers long falls. Then again, how good is a tiny cage going to be for any sort fo stay either? I think a "transportation cage" should be chosen separately from a "travel cage" as I just don't see how they could effectively be the same cage. (I only used separate names here to get my point across; we know you are just looking for what I referred to as a "transportation cage")
