I cannot believe that I finally found the perfect thing to color bird toys, and it is inexpensive, and easy to find.
It is cake icing coloring, in walmart's craft department, with the wedding decorations stuff.

Here's a sample of the red and purple. It is so thick and dark that I had to water it down.
And, considering it's use, it must be safe to eat.

Just dip a small brush in some water to get it good and wet, and just touch a tip of the brush into the coloring.

Much easier than the messy koolaid or food colorings.

I went back this morning and bought yellow, blue, green and orange.
Oh, yeah, and it only cost $1.27 per jar.

yes that is a great find Gail. You are right.....it would have to be safe considering what it is used for.......

That's exactly what I use...However I dissolve mine in tubs of hot water so I can dye a bunch of different wood at the same time. What ever works for ya...and it is completely safe! You can get it lots of different places, Michaels carries it...Joannes fabrics carries it And I'm sure any cake decorating supply store will have it as well. Good Stuff!
