This was just too amusing to pass up a comment on... I bought a bag of those plastic little girls' barrettes (all different colors.. all hard plastic) the other day thinking they might entertain Hemingway. He LOVES them! He never has been a huge foot toy guy until he discovered his barrettes. I left some open, closed others (he likes the open ones best)and put them in a little hanging bowl- he carries the things all over the place and drops them in between the bars of his cage. Then I also closed some around a piece of jute hanging on his cage and he busied himself forever trying to get them off. The simplest things... such funny little birdies! biggrin.gif

I dont have a means to post pics but i can add further discription. We sometimes have communication difficulties since this forum as a whole is a great melting pot of other countries and we have diff words for the same thing. A barrette is just simply a decoration that you can out in your hair. It holds hair back out of eyes or wherever you want them. They open and close by diff means and come in diff sizes ,colors , shape, etc. Much like a common hairpin or bobby pin is used. The barrette just opens and closes with a fastener instead of just slideing into hair. Hope this helps.

This is a great idea! As much as my Frankie is fascinated with opening and closing things ... this could be perfect! Thank you!

I often hit dollar stores for cheap plastic foot toys for Dodger..I never thought about using those. My daughter has many of them and won't leave them in her hair.Off to find them!!

Another good idea is in the party supplies section of stores...the have packaged little plastic trinkets for childrens birthday parties.I bought some small little spinning tops...dodger loves them laugh.gif
Animal Quackers
These are plastic barrettes. Little girls use them to hold their hair in place.

My daughter has tons of those things she's "too old for."

As soon as she gets back from her dad's, I'm going to see if she'll give them to Georgie.

Speaking of odd toys. You know those oversized jacks you get at Walmart for like 88 cents? Makes great foot toys too. Georgie will get one to roll around on the bottom of the cage between the bars.

Wow what a great idea! Beaker likes to play with toys on the bottom of her cage. Her favorite right now is a little plastic ball that was actually meant for a cat. She bangs it and kicks it around all the time. I bet she would really like a jack or the barrette idea. I will have to get some.
Andie's Mom
I ran out and picked up a package of them at the dollar store today...We'll see how the fiddo's like them...Thanks for that idea!

awww that is so cute. I'm going to have to get some of those. I'm still trying to find "a barrel of monkeys" as well.

Yogi doesn't seem to like any of the toys I got for him. Likes his playgym, and of course "king of the castle" amuses his highness for hours on end if the dog and cat are willing to play along <snicker>.
