Quaker Cutie's and Casey's Mom,
Can ya'll tell if Sweet Pea is a male or female. I finally figured out what I was not doing in order to post an actual picture. I had to take it with my web cam, so I hope they are in focus enough for ya'll to get a good look.

Thanks a Bunch,
Country Girl

Going by the white around the nostrils, I would guess it's a female but that may or may not be acurate.

Boy its hard to tell at this age with this one...There is definitely a blue tinge there but in also has a look of violet that could turn to the mauvish tan of a female...I'd give it another month or so to see what happens, Its been so long since I messed with parakeets It would be real hard for me to guess. Sorry I'm not much help....

OK Parakeet raisers...jump in and tell us...
QPdad
I'll bet I could get it right in two guesses.

Looks like a boyo to me, but I think he'll have to be a few months older to be sure.

Sweet Pea's cere colour hasn't changed since I brought her home.

I can't find a web site that gives much information about the parakeets. Can someone suggest one?

Do you know how old they are when the cere will not change colour?

Hi Country Girl,
My guess would be that Sweet Pea is a boy smile.gif, but I can't be positive. We have three boys and one girl, which we have bred and have many babies which we were *usually* accurate on our sexing, but then again they were babies. wink.gif Two of our boys ceres have turned blue and the other one is indefinite, although we know he is a boy. Judging by the lack of bars on his head, he is older which means the cere probably isn't going to change anymore, and since it didn't turn brown, its probably not a female. As for the white circles around his nostrils, (like QPdad mentioned) I believe that only means they are female when they are babies, before maturity is reached. I think that some males just don't change to the blue cere, like our Charlie, it could have something to do with the pigmentation. (our Charlie is white with a very pale blue)

Good Luck! smile.gif

wub.gif yeah I would say a boy.He doesn't have any bands left on his head.Majority of the time by the time the bands are at the top of the head, you can tell what sex it is..And males won't always turn totally blue. But will have lil line of blue at the bottom of the cere like yours has..It's all good though cause now ya have a reason to get more keets,lmao...And before ya know it you'll have babie's of your own...Keep me updated..

I am still waiting for the girls too. unsure.gif My hubby says we are bird poor and would like to wait a while before investing in more birds. sad.gif I have Wicket (qp), Lighting & Sweet Pea (keets), Lonesome & Ollie (doves), Rhythm & Rayne (dove babies), and last night Lonesome layed another egg.

My hubby is very generous and doesn't mind all the birds. But, He is a horseshoer and needs a few new tools. So the boys are gonna have to wait a bit longer for the girls to show up.

I will post pics as soon as i am able to get them.

It looks like a young Male to me as well. wink.gif
