Yes ... I felt there was something missing in my life a few years ago and I realized it was my relationship with God (I'd been away from Him for a while) ... I am doing sooo much better in my life now that I have returned to Him (He didn't leave me, I left Him!)

any theory on whats happening to the honey bees?
jobo2mi
Jun 30 2007, 11:18 AM
More and more farmeers are using pesticides to keep the bugs outta their crops...and the chemicals also kill the honeybees which do the majority of the pollination in the world.

Global warming? Try to cut down dependence of fossil fuels and go more to wind and/or solar power to generate electricity. Develop autos that run on water (hydrogen cars are alredy in the works) with no or MINIMAL exhaust. Stop the use of fluorocarbons in our aerosols.

Not terrified of, but HATE them, COCKROACHES....
Actually first time I saw one was when we moved to Charleston SC (about 30 yrs ago) When I walked in our bedroom, there was a GREAT BIG PALMETTO BUG on the wall and it freaked me out!! I ran screaming out into the living room yelling for my hubby to kill it, I didn't know what it was, but KILL IT!!

Come to find out it was a Palmetto bug (aka HUGE cockroach) ... and I found out THEY FLY!!! too.... aaarrgghhh not scared of them (except for that first one!) but geez they give me the willies...I HATE EM!! stomp on em whenever I see em!

Ever been to a bird fair?
CaptainQuark
Jul 3 2007, 01:34 PM
Yes. Once...
I went to the Cage and Aviary show in Birmigham, here in the UK, four or five years ago. We had to elbow our way past pickets of animal welfare and rights activists to get in. I wondered what could be so bad that it warranted such a big turnout.
When we got in, we found out why. There were displays of cages, equipment, bird food, etc. But there were also commercial breeders there. The way they treated their birds was disgraceful. I was particularly upset by a Belgian trader that had African Greys for sale. He had fifty or so crammed 6 at a time into a cage so small that I wouldn't keep one of my own Greys in for more than 2 hours on a trip to the avian vet! He was selling them to just anyone with £150/$250 spare – cash, cheque or credit card – that fancied trying their hand at keeping a parrot.
"Mummy, Mummy, can we have one?"
He wore a pair of thick gloves and a stout leather jacket so that, when a sale had been made, he could just stick his arm into one of the cages, grab any part of a Grey's anatomy, yank it out and stuff it, terrified and screaming, into a cardboard box!
I was so furious that I went straight outside and found the roughest, toughest looking group of animal rights protesters. They had been denied entry to the show, so I asked them to lend me a camera. I went back inside, took photographs of this character's treatment of his Greys and handed the camera back to the protesters.
I believe one of them 'had words' with him on his way out to the car park at the end of the day.
Ever since then, I have campaigned vigourously to impose a ban on selling birds at such events – although slightly more diplomatically...
Have you ever taken direct action when you have witnessed an injustice?
Dark Angel
Jul 3 2007, 01:40 PM
the ones in mn are no different not just big time commercial ones but even the small ones were just awful. I left rather depressed it was my first and last bird fair. They had birds of different species all houses together in aquarium tanks they couldnt even spread their wings and were too too young...I have heard other places ones are great I have yet to see it tho.
Yes I have taken direct action I am a nut case afterall. Once I saw this newborn baby left in a car and no adult to be found and it was -25 F outside I was so mad I had my husband stay near the car while I ran into the post office and shouted who left their baby alone in a car and a woman sheepishly came out of the line I nagged her all the way back to her car and I am guessing she probably will be too afraid to ever try that stunt again

My Daddy wouldn't let me take the car by myself unless I knew how ... and I thank him all the time for that!
I've had to change them in the dark, in the rain, in the driveway, in the garage, in a parking lot, etc. etc. etc.

(Can change my own oil too!)
How much time do your fids take up each week? Feeding, cleaning, playing, etc.
wilywind
Jul 5 2007, 03:04 PM
That's actually a tougher one to answer. It takes about ten minutes a day changing water and papers ect... On the weekends I spend a good thirty minutes steaming his cage. As far as day to day time with Charlie, it depends on how he's feeling that day.

Oh! I have an Aerolattè - it is a very useless little invention that is supposed to foam cold milk... it doesn't work particularly well. I tried to use it to make whipped cream once (since I had no eggbeater) and that was an even bigger failure
