Hi,
I'm new to this site. My husband and I are hoping to have our new quaker with in four to five weeks. She is still yet to young to bring home. We have never had a quaker before. We have had two cockatiels. Our last one which died in January we had for over 10 years. He was a good bird and is missed. We are looking forward to our new bird. We are getting a female. Someone told us that they don't talk as fast as a male does. Could someone help us out on this one. Will post pictures when get her.

Hi Lucyann and welcome to the zoo...you're gonna love living here!
As far as talking ability between the two sexes, I've owned both and I've had excellent talkers from both sexes...My first Quaker was female and she was very accomplished and was talking before she was totally weaned. I've also had males that didn't talk very well at all...and Vice versa...right now the little quaker girl I have talks...but not a lot and definitely not as plain as my first little girl did...So it just really depends on the bird in my opinion. And how much time you spend with them etc. And there's never any guarantee that any of them will talk at all.

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunaley I have had Morgan for over 10 years now and he is definately not a talker. He does get his point across without talking though. You will have fun when you get your little green chicken.

I just took a picture of them doing that. We taught them to lie down and "play dead". Well they're not good at the dead part but they will lie side by side. Am going to try to get some better pictures of them this weekend.

We brought are new baby quaker home yesterday (Saturday). She is a sweetheart. She wanted to bite many times yesterday, but today she only tried to bite once. I would tell her no bite and I think she got the idea. She loves to be held and petted. She sat on the top of her cage for a long time and when we petted her she would make a soft little noise. There was a couple of times that no one was looking at her and she would let us know that she was still in the room. I have taken pictures of her and will get one on the forum this week. Her name it Baby.
