The local petstore near me did a low cost avian clinic today and I took Miya...I filled out the papers, waited in line and paid for the services...and then after about 20 minutes we saw the vet...They put her to sleep...weighed her, clipped her nails, trimmed her beak and then....surgically sexed her and to my shock the vet said..."It's a boy!!" (Although I'm not too familliar with this procedure and how accurate it is) They even tattooed him with a little blue mark on his right wing...the Dr. said right wing is marked for boys and left for girls...anybody have this type of sexing done and or marking? and know how accurate it may be? oh ...and now I have a certificate that says "Miya-Green Quaker-Male-126grams-age unknown"

Other then that the vet said he is a little chubby weighing in at 126 grams and needs to be eating 10% seeds and the rest pellets, fresh fruits and veggies, and a small portion or rice/pasta...His beak had little hemmorages and was a little bruised looking and the vet said it was most likely from being over weight...this vet is actually from Clarendon Hills, IL and his name is Scott McDonald anyone go to him know him? (just curious to know)

and another question...do I still call him Miya? or would it be safe to name him something similar?

I have never heard of sexing that way, BUT, Andie and Andie's Mom, Connie go to Scott McDonald when he is in this area and apparently he is an awesome Vet, so I think I would definitely listen to him because he knows his stuff. So I think I would be thinking of a different name...ha ha

my husband and I agreed on "Milo" (pronounced mee-lo) so it sounds similar but is more suitable for a boy

I'm pretty sure surgical sexing is 100% accurate. You can try changing his name if you want to but he won't have any clue that his name is a girl's name so he probably couldn't care either way

like i told lilblue Miya was sexed by a bird sexing agency, you send it out and they send you the sex. they said girl.. i guess they gOtten mixed up, I laughed so hard i fell out of my chair, My wife Rose is in the hospital she is the one who gave Lilblue Miya or Meelo. Im thinking for miya's name to be Miyo in spanish Miyo is mine.. I bought rose a custom shirt that says I love quaker parrots.

I have to get a pic of it. The reason why Rose is in the Hospital is because she was really dehydrated *(go figure she's a fish out of water) and her anemia has gotten really bad.. all she does is ask me: did Miya's owner call? is paulie okay, and romeo? Did you remember to give pauliehis daily fruit, did tHey eat their pellets?. did you change the water.. she doesnt stop.

I told her shut up and get yourself better, I will take care of them. their fine. Shes a good mommy, but even mommy needs to get better. I'll keep you updaed.

the name miya is also a boys names. Its meaning is :MIYA

Good news except for the chubbiness. I am sure you will get it under control. Not sure about the sexing. Happy for you that you know Miya is okay.

Tell Rose to follow the Dr's orders and get better. Were thinking of her and sending her good "get well" wishes....

Oh gosh! I forgot to give good wishes to Rose. Hope she gets better and stronger soon. I bet the t-shirt cheered her up:)

oh yea she loved the shirt. she gets out on tuesday so shes decided to wear the shirt when she comes out..lol
