I clip Morgans wings and I believe there are others here that do their own also.

I clip mine but I won't do his nails myself. I used to when I had lovebirds, but I clipped my Quaker once and he bled, it took about 10 minutes to get it to stop but I was a nervous wreck for hours. I cried for a while and just sat and stared at him, ready to call my other half and make him take us to the vet. I made my boyfriend drive a long way to come get my keys and check on him because I was stuck at work.

Yeah, a lot of people do. I don't at the moment as the main reasons (safety and training) are not issues right now. Plus, I like that Gabe can fly away instead of biting. I'm pretty sure it has made our relationship go much more smoothly.

I do right now but I have gone without clipping them too. It depended on our situation but now we have deemed it necessary.

Nope, not me...don't want to. be my luck I'd clip something I shouldn't. I leave it up to someone who knows what they are doing.....and I'm not that one.

I do my own trimming and clipping also. There are a lot of things that make our birdie companions very expensive to have. This is one aspect of thir care than can be taken care of ourselves and save a few bucks. On the otherhand if not sure how than letting someone else do it is the smart way to go.

We clip ours our self. I have always just sortof knowen how (nails and wings) for those of you that do clip your babies nails get some quik stop (sold at petsmart and other pets stores in the dog section) so if you hit the quik you can stop the bleeding. Also if you do hit it and dont have anything you can ues corn starch as well. just dab alittle on the quik. Hope that helps someone. My husband is a dog groomer and before I met him I had no idea

Hubby and I use to clip Kiwi's wings and nails when we lived in Calif just because it was too far to a vet. Now we opt for a different solution......have someone else do it.....

I would say about 80-90% of us clip. We ran a poll on this once I believe.

I've always clipped my own birds' wings (and nails). I also do clips for other bird owners too.

If you search the forum a bit I bet you'll find tons of ?? and answers about wing clipping. There was one just a couple of weeks ago and either Andie or Andie's mom provided an excellent diagram.

I leave the clipping and trimming for the vet. That way he doesn't get pissed off at me... but at her.
Honestly... it's a two person job... and I would rather leave it to the professionals. It's not that expensive... and doesn't have to be done that often.

I clip my fids wings, never their nails. They never seem to need it.

I clip all my fids wings and nails. My apartment just won't work for a fully flighted bird, I lost 2 already that way and I'm not losing anymore.

I have always done my birds wings and nails myself.
Also do all my families pets.
From what I have seen since I have been here, a good portion of the members do their own clipping.

I clip Jacquee's wings and am thinking of "filing" her nails. I took her to a pet shop once to have her wings clipped and the woman butchered her wings - NEVER AGAIN!!!

I ahve clipped Dodger before...but I think next time I will have the vet do it.
The previous owners of my macaws clipped their wings themselves...but I am not going to try it...I like having all 10 fingers

I clip both sets myself. Argus is VERY easy. I show her the scissors, extend her wing (while she is standing on her perch) and clip away. She just looks at me like I'm nuts. But, never a bite or nip comes from her. When I'm done she shakes and out we snuggle.

Bug is learning to handle it like her big sister, so no toweling is ever needed. I try to teach them to handle grooming without a towel. (easier on the babies physically, easier on Mommy mentally

I will clip the boy's toenails, but not their wings.
When I got my tiel, his wings were so badly butchered they still haven't grown in properly. His tailfeathers were all broken from crashing when the previous owner let him "try" to fly grrrrr. He grows in a tailfeather, and with nothing to protect it, it's broken within a week <sigh>. Until his wings grow in properly, he'll never have a tail.
rambling <ahem>.. so I won't risk messing up Yogi's. I'd rather have them trimmed professionally at our parrot club meetings. They do wings and nails, and they know what they are doing
I love watching Yogi glide to the floor, and then exercise his little wings. Then he will either step up, or climb the comforter we have to protect the couch from droppings etc.
I read that a common reason for losing a quaker on "day 1" is bringing home a fully flighted bird that escapes out a door that's accidentally left open a second too long. Not going to risk having that happen with my little buddy.

I clipped Julian's wings for the first time Wed. he didn't get mad at me but he didn't stand still to well for me either. I tried to place a wash cloth over his head and I was able to finally get both wings done. I haven't tried his nails yet. I have done my iguana's nails and she hates it. Once she is bigger it is a lot easier to do. So if Jules would sit still I am sure I could get his done too.

I take Brady to my bird shop and get it done. They are the only ones I trust to do the wings and nails. It doesn't have to be done that often and it's not expensive. I have to make a trip anyways to get his food (and some new toys if he's been a good boy) so might as well. I do my cats but I can see their blood line and they dont try to bite my fingers when I do it. LOL! I tried to do brady's nails once and it was just too hard and I was too nervous. The wings..uh uh no way..not even attempting. Maybe if I had them show me how in person..it would be different..but like I said ..I'm there anyhow. Brady likes to go for a ride and go squawk at the other birds. Get em all riled up. LOL! When we had rabbits I did theirs too but they kinda go in a trance on their backs ..so it was easy.

I clip Shah's wings because he is an "outside" bird - he comes on walks with me and we sometimes go visiting. I just cant take the risk that he will fly away. The vet showed me how to do it. I don't touch his nails - they never seem to need clipping anyway.
