Hi everyone,
This is my first post here. I found this forum last night and although the registration process didn't happen till today. I read through many posts and just couldn't stop reading. Think I'm going to like it here.
I have 11 birds and 3 dogs.
2 cags
2 irn'S
1 arn
2 cocktatiels
1 plumhead parakeet
1 hahn's macaw and of course
2 quakers

Currently we live in Michigan, but are thinking of moving to North Carolina. My DH is considering a job in Virginia Beach, but unbanded quakers are not allowed in that state and mine don't have closed bands.I don't have to explain to any of you here that it just means we'll have to move on the border in NC. Does anyone here know if Virginia is leanient in that law in any way?
Anyway, most of my birds came from a rescue and they keep me busy. I must say my quakers are the comics in this house and are good for a great laugh when I'm tired and had a hard day.

Welcome to the forum and you have a lot of birds......I don't know much about the band issue. Waiting someone with more knowledge to chime in here.

Welcome to the forum!!!

Taking a Quaker into an illegal state is a big issue of debate on this forum. Some people don't see a problem with it, other people do. It is more of a personal preference for you.

Some of the things to consider are:

1) Will you have a vet nearby that will overlook your 'illegal' Quaker?

2) You have to be prepared for the fact that your Quakers might be reported and you may lose them.

What I would do is contact a couple different avian vets in that state, explain your situation, and ask them what their thoughts and opinions are on it. Ask if they have heard of any unbanded Quakers being caught and exported (or worse euthanized). They should be able to answer your questions.

Good luck!

You can also contact your vet or a breeder and see about having an open band placed Have a vet certify that the bird has been seen and is healthy. I would do as much research before moving as I can in finding an avian vet and seeing what they advise. Then follow your heart.

Welcome to the forum. Man do you have a flock there. Sorry can't help you with the illegal state thing but I am sure you will work things out so you can keep your fids.

Click to view attachmentYou guys are wonderful here. It makes me angry that my husband can't except a job in Virgia due to their restrictions on my two quakers. They came from a rescue and needed homes and what because they aren't banded I'm forced to make a choice between my husband and a new job or them? Thankfully I have an understanding husband that's willing to drive 55 miles to work each way in order to move out of state.
It's nice to have all your support
