I need some advice. Everytime I leave the room Kea flies off towards me. It doesn't matter whether she is perched on my husband, her play gym, the couch, or the door of her cage and it doesn't matter which room it is in.
While it is cute, it is also somewhat annoying, but I'm not sure how to stop her from doing this.
I've tried taking her and putting her back and then leaving and she just keeps flying off. Her wings are partly clipped so she doesn't get full flight, but she does get about 6 feet before flutting to the ground.
Any suggestions? Thanks,
Stacy

Well you could start by giving her a fuller clip. So long as she isn't dropping to the ground like a rock, then she should be fine. I would just start with one feather on each wing and see how that works out. If you need to do another feather then you can. By clipping her a bit more she may realize that she isn't going to be able to get anywhere. Whereas with the lift she has right now she actually feels like she is going somewhere
I do think it is cute though how she wants to follow you. Sounds like she loves her mommy

She obviously considers you flock leader...And they like to be within site of the flock leader. The only real way to prevent her from flying after you is to clip her wings so she can't. Carrie Anne suggested a good way to go about it. It's your preference as to how many you clip and rule of thumb is to clip enough so they glide gently to the floor not like a rock which can cause injury.

Mine is clipped and can't fly... but he will flutter to the floor from his cage... and come waddling around looking for me, if I don't come when he wants me. So... you can clip him so he can't fly... but he will probably still come looking for ya. Just be aware of where you walk.

I can remember when.....

I first got Kiwi and he would do the same thing. He doesn't do that anymore. He is content to stay on his cage or on his tree, unless of course something spooks him......

Thanks everyone. It's good to know that it's not really a problem behaviour that requires some sort of training. Now all I need to do is figure out how to towel her to get a hold of her wings in order to clip it! If it's not one thing it's another!!!

Just take her and get the wings clipped. It doesn't cost that much... and then she won't be pissed off at you about the whole thing.
