Hubby and I went for a long motorcycle ride today. It was a beautiful day and a great ride!

Until we got home......

I apparently forgot to put the lock back on the Greenwings cage after some out time this morning.

When we got home and I walked into the house...imagine my suprise when I found Sebastion in the kitchen sleeping on the playstand blink.gif

Walked in into their room and found Shelby asleep on that playstand blink.gif

The closet door is chewed clean through! A hole big enough for them to get into the closet...which is where all the pellets, nuts, treats and toys are kept.A 1/2 pound of pine nuts, a bag of large parrot nuti-berries, a smaller bag of nuti-berries, a pound palm nuts, a 1/2 pound of poistachios...GONE...a very large and expensive snack for them both!
They also DESTROYED 4 new toys for Dodger (hatchday gifts LOL) Chewed a hole into the 25 pound bag of pellets (which are ALL OVER the room now rolleyes.gif
Started chewing into the back wall of the closet...but didn't get all the way through it.
Guess after all that fun it was time to take a nap LOL

Hubby is so not amused huh.gif But I guess it was a good foraging experience for them wacko.gif

All that and no pictures? You know you should have taken pictures of the massacre.

laugh.gif Well, I lost my camera on a trip to Las Vegas...or I would have.I am still dealing with the mess rolleyes.gif

Although I did discover not all the nuts have been eaten...but of course ALL the palm nuts are gone. Its a HUGE favorite of theirs..but one I can't get a holr of often. wink.gif

WOW! I'm surprised they could fit that much food into their little (or not so little? blink.gif ) tummies!! I'll bet they will be sleeping well tonight!!! laugh.gif
gypsygal
I guess I need to start an excersize routine to work all that fat off laugh.gif I did find most of the pistachios and a handful of pinenuts..I think the nutri-berries where just shredded (they don't really care much for them..they are more toys then food)

Scary thing is that in their room is where the comp is!! Glad they didn't get to the wires blink.gif

omg.....I would of just died!!! LOL What a shocker that must of been walking into. Glad they are alright though...might have tummy aches from so much treats (the lil stinkers!!!).

Gee after that much food, I'd need a nap too!

Mercy me, what a shock you did have and an expensive motorcycle ride... laugh.gif

Sorry to hear that...I hope with all that food that was consumed that all will be well...

So that ol' saying, while the cat's away the mice will play...Holds true once again. It could have been worse...Much much worse! Sorry it happened, even though I'm sure a bunch of us are secretly laughing at the visual of these little birdie burglars.
Quakermom
always keep a disposable camera in the house and in your car cause you enver know..lol I think i would have walked in and fainted..lol

ohmy.gif excl.gif laugh.gif
OMGosh what a story! one youll never forget lol! Wow chewed thru the door!
Alusdra
I would assume that it was an amazing foraging run for them. Probably shouldn't repeat it, though- quite expensive the replace that door every day laugh.gif

What good birdies, though- to go to their perches when finished destroying the house and eating all the treats. tongue.gif

They must of had one heck of a party while you were out!
I had a dog that decided my leather couch I had was one massive chew toy and demolished it. Thats as far as major damage goes tho.
I like how you look at it it tho your right it could of been much worse.
You have me rethinking what I have been doing tho with my U2.
I have been letting abby stay out all day in one room that is pretty much bird proofed. The outlets are all sealed with metal plate covers and she cant reach the light in the ceiling and so far she hasnt touched the crown molding or the wood door but I am wondering if she will ever decide it would be fun to do. She has alot to play with in there already and I have been keeping my eyes peeled for little tykes play stuff (like the house the slide etc) for her to play with while I am at work. What do you think? Should I let her stay out or?

Just because they have the beak that our large birds do and the nack for destruction...I might re-think leaving her out.
Although my Sebastion has an amazing curious streak and is always checking things out...AND getting into trouble LOL I guess it would depend on the bird..but ya never know what can happen if she develops an intrest in something wink.gif
From sifting through the mess...I thing that what started them on the door was a piece of rope that was shut in the door.Sebastion is a VERY determined bird LOL I think he started trying for that rope..then perhaps discovered all the other goodies in the closet.

I will say that the doors are the sliding doors..not the thick normal doors.so perhaps it was a bit easy for them to chew wink.gif

OH MY GOSH..we have had our U2 for about a month now..those photos are scary. Lucy has recently discovered that the floor is not hot lava and enjoys getting down and running around. Chases the dog or cats, plays with the dog toys..the ones that roll away make her mad..She puffs and screams and chases them..like a little soccer player. She also likes anything else that falls into her big girl beak. Thankfully my quaker, Nibbler tattles on her when she is off the cage. Maybe I should think about a lock on the door now, so I can get in the habbit of having one for her.

Oh Angie, that link is priceless!!!!!!!! I'm laughing so hard right now because of the diaster and also the author's injected humour. Too funny!
Andie's Mom
I'll tell ya what, there's NO WAY I'd leave Cowboy out all day She'd have this place totally destroyed. My couch already has Cockatoo work done to it, the molding around her window is knarled and she has lots of toys....but if she can get into mischief she's gonna do it. I make sure she is in her cage and it is LOCKED when I'm not in the house!
Tara Rose
That is so funny! The little stinker took a picture of herself while she was wrecking the house!! laugh.gif
