Levi has heaps of new feathers starting to come through on his head.

They are growing really fast.

Does this give any indication of his age?

He is supposed to be about 10 weeks, but I think he might be a bit younger.

That's a good question and I am curious as to what people have to say. Louie is about 16 weeks old now. Since I've had him, he has been molting and it seems to be increasing...I guess because of Spring? At one point he looked like a pinhead, lol. Now he is going what seems to be the second round of getting more head feathers and more around his neck and chest, lots of pins around these areas. He has even lost a couple of tail feathers.

I would like to share with you a really good article about molting
http://qp-society.com/qpserc/molting.html

However when they refer to 9 to 10 months which is when your quaker will get his first hard molt ie major molt yet its not all that unusual for quakers to experience a molt before that time line.

Off to read the link now.

Levi hasn't lost any feathers...he's just growing new ones.

Ok in regards to helping Levi prune his head to get the "sheath" off - he hates me doing it.

I tried this afternoon but he just keeps shaking his head and trying to get away and I was barely touching his head.

If I just keep spraying him will that be OK?

Ill keep trying with the head thing but I dont think its going to work.
