We got an apartment - for real this time. biggrin.gif We're doing some final shopping and will be moving in during my time off from work for our marriage April 4th - 16th. I remember someone here talking about being careful that appliances that get hot don't have non-stick coating. What is there to look out for? My mom said that all toaster ovens are made out of self-cleaning material and so are not safe - is that true? Our living room, where Andrew's cage will be, is right next to the kitchen so I want to be sure the appliances are safe. I've already established the stainless steel cookware. wink.gif

Cool thing is, the landlord has a cockatiel... plus two dogs and a cat. So no worries about Andrew making too much noise for anybody. biggrin.gif We have a kitchen, living room, bedroom, and big bathroom all seperate from each other with an emergency exit, big climb-out-able windows, and even a small yard where we can plant flowers and a garden. biggrin.gif Even better, the landlord is a family friend that's totally willing to help us in any way possible! biggrin.gif

Yes you need to be careful, toasters (for bread) are likely OK but I'm not sure about toaster ovens, check the inside though, you should be able to tell if it's chrome or teflon. If you're a coffee drinker, look for the carafe type coffee maker, they usually don't have a heating element thus no telfon, plus they keep coffee fresher

Congratulations on the new apartment and your wedding!

The toaster oven I have does not have teflon in it. It is all stainless on the inside. Glad that you did find a place. See good things come to those who wait.

Thanks guys! Neither of us like coffee so no coffee maker for us. I am a big toaster oven person though, what with onion rings and mozarella sticks and whatnot. It's nice in the warmer months to not have to heat up the whole place with the oven. I'll follow sgtcluck's idea and look for a toaster oven that's stainless steel inside. How do you tell if it's chrome or teflon? What is chrome anyway - is that what's bad?
