I don't know if my bird is male or female and never tried to find out cause I heard it cost $350.00. Today, I called the vet and they said they would charge $33.00 for a DNA test. I just wanted to post that in case anyone else wanted to find out their bird's sex and didn't realize it was so cheap. In all fairness, the people who told me it was $350.00 checked back in 1993. I just found out recently from them that back then they had to do a surgery to find out the sex.

Wow, now that is pricey!!

If you do it yourself DNA can range from 15 to 25 bucks (depending what lab you use). Having the vet do it can be a bit more expensive than that. If your vet will do it for 33 bucks than that is a great deal!! That isn't much more than what it would cost you to do it and you don't have to deal with the trauma that some owners have when faced with cutting a nail too short or pulling feathers.

My vet also does it for $35, not too bad. smile.gif

my vet wanted $50, the girl that does his nails and wings will do it for $19 so this weekend I may have Shamrock Dna'd.
He has to go for a wing clip anyway.

I just did ChaChi at the vet it cost 65. I would never have done it-but they were taking a blood test to check her out-so what the hay. But if they wen't taking the blood I would not suject the bird to a blood test for just a sex-does it really matter? Not to me. I thought 65 was alot-but I live in the NE-everything is $$.

The place I got my bird from charges $30. It's good to know that's a decent price b/c when I take my bird to have it's wings trimmed and nails clipped. I just may do that too smile.gif
