ok..so this is going to sound pretty stupid, but I just have to ask lol.

How do you know if your quaker has a runny nare? I know Yogi is healthy and nothing is dripping from his face.

But every time I see "make sure his nare isn't runny, or crusty" I have to wonder if Yogi is the "only" quaker with hidden nares laugh.gif

I'd have to move an awful lot of feathers to find his nares.

In most of the pics I've looked at I don't see visible nares either.

My cockatiel's nares are VERY visible which is normal.

Is yogi abnormal?
Andie's Mom
No...Yogi is not abnormal....It varies for species to species as to how noticeable the nares are.

Hahahaa..that's what I thought the question was gonna be about too! I hate the smell of that stuff!

It's a nose hole.

(Not a good place to use the hair removal product!! ohmy.gif )

laugh.gif It's their nostrils...I like your description Buddy, nose hole... tongue.gif

You have to move the tiny feathers to see the nare (nostrils)....

And their hearing (ears) are hidden also which are right behind their eyes...Move the feathers around and you will see a hole on both sides.... ohmy.gif

Oh...their nose holes. Ok. So they have a different name.

OMG hahahha never for a minute thought I'd see the responses I did today laugh.gif
That Nare hair removal response had me busting a gut laughing.

Glad to know that Yogi's nares aren't the only ones covered in feathers heheeh. I knew his ears were. He lets me beak wrestle with him, and pat his beak, but wouldn't let me check under feathers for nasty nare symptoms wink.gif

Thanks for the chuckles.

We went toy supply shopping today. Got some cool things for the boys. Came home and did the BIG cage cleaning routine, and put up new toys.

Yogi is giving his stuff the evil eye from a distance, but Raven the wonder tiel has been checking his out. Maybe Yogi will test his out if he sees Raven playing with his hmmm

laugh.gif A serious question- but I love how confused it got. laugh.gif Like that time someone was using the British or Australian word for a wall outlet. tongue.gif

I find that if stuff is coming out of the nose, it makes the little feathers wet- so it's actually easier sometimes to see (it was water, I freaked out, but the vet said it was ok)

hahahahahaahaha picture yourself now.. standing in the aisle in the shaving section, and laughing yourself silly.

Now picture the person in charge of that department looking at you, and trying to decide if you're a danger to yourself or society rofl.

laugh.gif That QPdad got this nare thing started with all the laughs...You know he is good at that.....But we certainly enjoyed the chuckles...
